What Are the Trump Administration’s Objectives in Iran?

“My view is that there is probably no country on Earth with a greater gap between its leaders and its citizens than Iran,” Karim Sadjadpour, contributing writer at The Atlantic and senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, argued last night. “If you can change Iran’s leadership and empower the people to form some kind of representative government – or, at a minimum, a government that represents its own national interests rather than this revolutionary ideology of 1979 – that would be a geopolitical game changer for the United States and a huge victory for President Trump. »
