What to know about endangered gorillas and tourist tours tracking them

World Gorilla Day is observed on September 24. He started in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of a Gorilla study center in Rwanda founded by Dian Fossey. Fossey studied mountain gorillas, a kind of oriental gorillas living in the Virunga massif through Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. Gorillas lose their habitat due to poaching and other threats. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature lists the two species of gorillas in danger. The gorillas share a large part of their DNA with humans, which makes them vulnerable to infections to spread by close contact. Conservation efforts are crucial for their survival.
