Elon Musk admits that millions of Tesla vehicles won’t get unsupervised FSD

For customers who have purchased FSD, what we are offering is essentially a discounted trade-in for cars with AI4 hardware. We will also offer the opportunity to upgrade the car to replace the computer. And unfortunately we also have to replace the cameras to upgrade to Hardware 4. To do this effectively, we’re going to have to install micro-factories, or small factories, in large metropolitan areas in order to do this effectively. If this is done at the service center, it is extremely slow and inefficient. We basically need mini production lines to make the change.

I think over time it will make sense for us to convert all Hardware 3 cars to Hardware 4, because that’s what allows them to enter the robotaxi fleet and have unsupervised FSD.
