What to know about the shooting at a Dallas immigration facility – Chicago Tribune

A shooter fired on an immigration field office in Dallas from a neighboring roof on Wednesday morning, killing two detainees and seriously injuring another, before committing suicide in what the authorities called a blind attack on American immigration and the application of customs.
The three victims were inside a van outside the establishment when the shooter opened fire, the Ministry of Internal Security said in a statement. The authorities say they have found ammunition with anti-glossy messages on the scene.
The attack is the last public murder, targeted in the United States and occurs two weeks after the conservative chief Charlie Kirk was killed by a shooter brandishing a rifle on a roof.
2 detainees killed and another critically injured in the installation of Dallas Ice, said Homeland Security
Here are some of the things to know about the shooting of the ice desk.
Who are the victims?
The three victims were detainees, said the Ministry of Internal Security. Officials have not published any additional information on the identity of the victims.
No member of the police were injured in the attack, the authorities said.
Who was the shooter?
The authorities say that the shooter died of a self-inflicted ball injury, but they did not publish additional details on the shooter.
A law enforcement official identified the suspect like Joshua Jahn, 29. The civil servant could not publicly disclose the details of the investigation and maintained himself with the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
A few hours after the shooting, the authorities could be seen at the top of a law cabinets building near the installation of ice. A white van from the medical examiner’s office has arrived. A crew could be seen in a body that was in a black bag before leaving.
What was the reason for the attack?
The FBI declared during a morning press conference that the ammunition found on the scene contained an anti-ice messaging, and the chief of the agency, Kash Patel, published a photo on social networks which shows a ball containing the words “anti-ice” written in what seems to be a marker.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Security, Tricia McLaughlin, also published photos showing ball holes in a window and a glass case holding an American flag.
In a statement, the secretary of the Ministry of Internal Security, Kristi Noem, said: “This attack was motivated by hatred for ice.”
During a press conference, Senator Ted. Cruz said: “This is the third shooting in Texas intended for ICE or CBP. This must stop. With each politician who uses the rhetoric demonizing ice cream and demonizing CPB: stop. With each politician demanding that ice agents are doxed and call people to go after their family: stop. This has very real consequences.”
But the Democrats accused Cruz and others of selectively publishing information and trying to “control the story” to adapt to the republican arguments that ice agents are besieged.
Immediately after a press conference before which the authorities refused to say if the detainees were among the victims, the United States Democrat representative Marc Veasey called Dallas’ WFAA-TV newspaper and told them that he was “absolutely overshadowed” by the comments of the officials.
“If they try to control this story and they do not want migrants to be the victim of this story, then they may want to walk slowly to give us information on this subject so that they can always talk about attacks on ice,” said Veasey.
Where has the shooting occurred?
The shooting occurred at the local Dallas office, where the agents carry out short -term treatment of those who are in detention. The victims may have recently been arrested by ice.
The ICE installation is along the Interstate 35 East, just southwest of Dallas Love Field, a large commercial airport serving the metropolitan region of Dallas-Fort Worth, and a few houses in the hotels that are aimed at the airport travelers.
What other recent attacks has there in ICE facilities?
A July 4 attack in a Texas immigration detention center injured a police officer, who was shot in the neck. The attackers dressed in military-style black clothing opened fire outside the prairiel detention center in Alvarado, southwest of Dallas, said federal prosecutors. At least 11 people were charged as part of the attack.
A man with an assault rifle pulled dozens of bullets on federal agents while leaving an American border patrol establishment in McAllen on July 7. The man, identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda, injured a police officer who responded to the premises before the authorities kill him. Later, the police found other weapons, ammunition and backpacks inside his car.
