With the start of the regular season looming, multiple teams still find themselves at odds with key players. Among those in this group is the Washington Commanders, who have yet to rectify things with Terry McLaurin. As the situation continues to unfold, one insider dove into the latest about a potential trade.

For the last few months now, McLaurin and his representation have been striving to secure a new long-term deal with the Commanders. However, price continues to be a major roadblock.

McLaurin, fresh off his fifth straight 1,000 yard season, believes he should be compensated similar to other top receivers around the league. On the flip side, Washington isn’t going to pay market price for a veteran wideout who is getting ready to turn 30.

In light of the two sides being unable to come to an agreement, reports surfaced during training camp that McLaurin put in an official trade request.

Since this saga with McLaurin began during mandatory minicamp, the Commanders have maintained a certain stance. Even though negotiations haven’t panned out, they aren’t interested in going the trade route.

Washington values what McLaurin brings to the team on and off the field, and wants to keep him around for the foreseeable future.

In the latest episode of the Scoop City podcast, NFL insider Dianna Russini provided an update regarding McLaurin. She reported that nothing has changed when it comes to the Commanders’ unwillingness to part with McLaurin.

“There’s been no significant movement at this point in terms of getting this deal done,” Russini said. “But of all the ones we talk about, this one continues to be the one we see moving in a really good direction…When you have conversations around the league about availability, Terry’s not one of those. Teams are continuing to get the same answer from Washington, which is we’re trying work a deal out here.”

Some positive updates have come about regarding McLaurin, mainly as it pertains to his health. After being put on the PUP list when he arrived at camp, he’s since been moved to the active roster. This opens the door to him being available for the Commanders Week 1, depending on how things unfold regarding his contract.

With talks about the situation being more positive as of late, there is a glimmer of hope that McLaurin and the Commanders will be able to put this all behind them soon.
