Where Oregon Ducks' defense, special teams rank in key stats after Week 1
Head coach Dan Lanning said that the Oregon Ducks had had a goal during their week 1 match with the Bobcats in the Montana State: Ovetustr les. There were two sides at this equation, obviously, because the offense had to have a successful day on the ground. But the potentially more difficult task was for the defense, because there was on them to stifle a ground attack of bobcats which won 294.9 yards on the ground per game ago – the second highest brand of the FCS.
On Saturday, the defense of the Ducks did exactly that in a dominant way. They held the state of Montana at only 46 yards on the ground in 27 races. This resulted in a meager 1.7 yards per race, well below the average of the 2024 bobcats season of 6.5 yards per race.
It was a large distribution of contributors led by the defensive line player A’Mauri Washington, who totaled five plated and 1.5 plated for the loss. All day long, the Ducks marked the state of Montana at the point of attack.
And when the bobcats decided to broadcast the ball, the secondary of Oregon kept the ball in front of them. The quarter-Arrière Justin Lamson needed 31 attempts to reach 198 yards by the pass, which made him late in the match.
It was a defensive clinic put by the Ducks in their season opening, an excellent sign because they compete early on against the opponents of Big Ten. Here is how the defense of Oregon and the special teams ranked nationally in several key statistics of week 1.
