While football coaches in section 11 section are preparing for the official start of training on Monday, there is a significant change in progress.

They don’t fight. On the contrary, they unite as a group, understanding and entering their similar challenges while trying to create environments to keep players and their parents invested in the future.

They still complain and complain, but that is part of the work in the unified school district of Los Angeles. They sacrifice, a lot like coaches on foot, for “small” victories who inspire them to continue a coach.

Whether they realize it or not, it is the only way to follow – helping children develop as players and students first. Worried about victories and losses on the ground later.

All they want is a just and equitable playground, but sometimes it cannot be achieved.

The coaches had to put themselves on a member. The courage was exhibited last season when the head coaches in San Pedro, Gardena, Carson and Banning decided to give up matches against Narbonne while demanding an investigation by Lausd in alleged rules of the rules. Families were not happy to lose the opportunity to play games. Purists who believe that loss is never acceptable was dismayed. Some coaches involved have received strong criticism.

He forced an investigation, which made the players were declared ineligible and Narbonne who cancels his title in the city and declared ineligible for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 qualifying series.

Each coach who signed for the demonstration eventually resigned, with the exception of Corey Walsh from San Pedro. They helped clean a mess that should not have been allowed to get worse.

When the coaches of the city section gathered for their annual meeting last month to discuss the coming season, there have been many hugs, hand handles and discussions on identical challenges (academic eligibility, increase in list numbers, finding assistant coaches, concerns concerning federal immigration raids). The heat was real because many older coaches were mentors. Elijah Asante de Hamilton used to train the coach of the first year Jordan, James Boyd.

So many families have gone. The days when Carson, Banning, Dorsey and Crenshaw could compete and beat the best of the teams in the southern section have disappeared. Remember when Crenshaw played the room in the CIF Open Division’s State Championship match in 2009? Coach Robert Garrett is still with 290 career victories, but the alignment of cougars oscillates around 25 players without JV team.

This does not mean that ancient powers can no longer increase as champions in the city section. Those who stayed, coaches to players, deserve praise for having taken an adventure that can be intimidating. There are good faithful people determined to help along the way.

New installations have opened. The all -weather fields and the new grass fields are multiplying. Garfield, Roosevelt and Hamilton are making their debut new stages this fall. A strong collection of quarters of the city section is ready to let the Ballon fly, from Liam Pasten by Eagle Rock to Chris Fields de Carson. There is no dominant team, although the usual contenders – Birmingham, Carson, San Pedro – are teams to watch. Until now, 71 schools are playing football by 11 men.

There is a scenario that is inspired by some – Palisades High while trying to get up after his campus was damaged during the fire of Palisades. Even if his football field was largely intact, the team begins the unauthorized season to play on the field and will play Santa Monica College. Students have not yet returned to campus. TV cameras will be out of strength to capture the drama if the Dolphins can organize a dream season.

South section teams also start training on Monday. If you think you are watching the film “Groundhog Day”, you are right. Each title of division 1 since 2016 has been won by Mater Dei or St. John Bosco. It is almost certain to reproduce in 2025.

This does not mean that there should not be exceptional games in the southern section, starting with the August 22 match of Santa Margarita and the new coach Carson Palmer by facing Mission Viejo in Trabuco Hills.

There is always excitement and plot when the pads come for the first time next week. Teaching children who have never worn pads is both comedy and memorable. It will only be the responsibility of the coaches of the city section who receive an allowance of $ 5,622 over four months and should be Superman every day.

To all the coaches, thank you for your sacrifice and for providing adolescents with the advice, the discipline and the structure that will be necessary when their game career is over.
