Who missed out for Germany’s March internationals?

Said El Mala – 1. FC Köln
Said El Mala has been one of the biggest young German talents to come out of the Bundesliga this season.
With 10 goals and four assists in the Bundesliga, he has been Köln’s standout player at only 19 years of age.

The only German to have scored more goals than him in the Bundesliga this season is German striker Deniz Undav.
With this, growing interest has come from clubs like Chelsea and Brighton, with the latter of the two having had multiple bids rejected for the Köln star.
In the autumn internationals last year, Said El Mala was called up before being sent back to the under-21s by Julian Nagelsmann.
This time round, the flashy winger who is one of the quickest players in the Bundesliga this season has made a stronger case for himself – starting five of the last seven games for Köln sandwiched between an injury recovery.

This recent form and recent run of starts for the Billy Goats has cemented him as not just a super sub but also as a player who can play out a full 90 minutes.
Maximilian Beier – Borussia Dortmund
Maximilian Beier has had an incredible run of form since December last year for BVB.
He has had 10 goal contributions since matchday 15 and is one of the Bundesliga’s hottest strikers on form alone.
Beier has been in most of Germany’s teams in the recent years, notably gaining a squad spot for the Euro 2024 in his home land.
However, his slow start to this season may have inhibited his position in Germany’s team and his stake to not just be selected via recency bias.

Karim Adeyemi – Borussia Dortmund
For Karim Adeyemi, it is clear that the recent lack of starts has meant that he wasn’t included in Julian Nagelsmann’s final squad in March.
With him missing a game in February against Wolfsburg, he also only made short cameos against Köln and played 20 minutes apiece against Atalanta in the Champions League.
Against Augsburg, however, the German netted in a game where he started and saw out the full 90.
However, he was brought off in the first game after the squad announcement at half time after receiving a yellow card in the first half.
Maximilian Mittelstädt – VfB Stuttgart
Maximilian Mittelstädt was Germany’s starting left back just two years ago during Euro 2024, until David Raum came in for a game in the knockouts.

Since then, the Leipzig international has often been preferred over the Stuttgart fullback and this includes during the game in November against Slovakia where Raum started in the 6-0 win.
However, Stuttgart have reclaimed a lot of the same form that saw them finish 2nd in the Bundesliga in 2024 and now sit in a Champions League spot once again.
Key to this has been the number 7 donning Mittelstädt who has played 25 times this campaign.
Yann Aurel Bisseck – Inter Milan
Yann Bisseck has only made one appearance so far for Germany, despite being one of the nation’s biggest defensive talents abroad.

However, it is fair to state that his side’s failure in the Champions League against Bodo/Glimt in losing 2-5 may be playing heavy in Julian Nagelsmann’s mind.
The German was a part of a defence that conceded two goals at home to send the Italians flying out of Europe.
Despite this, Inter have been cruising through the Serie A and are currently 1st with only 24 goals conceded.
The German has played 19 times in the Serie A for the Italian giants but may have been a risk too many for Julian Nagelsmann.
