No Mercy for Betrayal – RedState

There was a time in American history when acts of treason and espionage were properly punished. In 1951, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were sentenced of conspiracy to commit espionage for the Soviet Union under Espionage Act of 1917. They were executed in 1953.
Today, China is at war with the United States. Beijing is rapidly strengthening its conventional military capabilities while waging a global war. unrestricted war campaign against the United States and its allies. It is estimated that the United States will lose hundreds of billions dollars each year due to intellectual property theft and industrial espionage. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) uses this sensitive information to enrich its soldiers. This is precisely why Washington cannot afford to go soft on traitors.
Ministry of State Security (MSS) of the People’s Republic of China eclipse the KGB of the Soviet Union and the Stasi of East Germany at their height. The MSS actively recruits Americans – federal government employees, military personnel, academics, researchers and others – through job offers and social networks. Financial incentives are often used to attract individuals.
There are many examples of Americans aiding and abetting the CCP.
Earlier this month, Seth Roomsa former United States Marine Corps. intelligence analyst with the highest security clearance, was arrested for sharing classified documents with two unauthorized individuals, including one residing in China.
In 2025, Michael Schenaa former State Department employee, and John Harold Rogersformer senior advisor to the Federal Reserve, were indicted. Schena had provided dozens of defense documents to Chinese state actors since 2022 for between $13,000 and $37,000, while Rogers shared trade secrets with Chinese nationals linked to the MSS. Rogers subsequently accepted a professor position at Shanghai Fudan University.
In 2024, Korbein Schultza former US Army intelligence analyst, was arrested for providing dozens of classified military documents between 2022 and 2024 to a Chinese national living in China in exchange for approximately $42,000. Schultz also tried to recruit his friend, an Army intelligence analyst. For the United States Indo-Pacific Command.
In 2023, Jin Chao Weia former US Navy sailor, was arrested for selling national defense information – classified documents, designs and operating manuals – to an MSS agent for $12,000.
These individuals have something more in common than helping America’s main adversary: lenient sentences.
Chambers faces two counts carrying up to ten years in federal prison. Schena, Schultz and Wei were sentenced to 48, 84 and 200 months in prison, respectively. And Rogers was convicted of a lesser charge of lying to investigators, but acquitted of economic espionage conspiracy charges.
Treason is the most serious federal crime because it threatens the security of the state and endangers citizens and must be treated as such. It is not surprising that the death penalty is provided to punish this crime.
Deterrence is another reason to punish acts of treason to the fullest extent of the law. Lenient sentences signal the weakness of our adversaries and their proxies while these malicious actors baselessly accuse individuals of espionage in the name of the United States and sentence them to death. Deterrence only works when the consequences are clear and severe enough to make anyone think twice before taking part in subversive activities targeting America.
The same standards must be applied to foreign nationals in the United States, who engage in espionage and recruit Americans to carry out their orders.
The scourge of treason, an offense that directly threatens the security and defense of our country, demands a rapid and uncompromising response in this country. If this crime continues to be treated leniently, it will erode our republic from within and ultimately lead to its downfall.
