Reports have indicated that Hamas demanded the release of Barghouti throughout the negotiations on cease-fire agreements, hoping that such a decision would revive Hamas’ support.

The Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben -Gvir, spoke Thursday with Marwan Barghouti and warned: “Whoever bothers Israel – we wipe him”.

“You will not defeat us, whoever spoils the people of Israel, whoever murdered our children and our women – we wipe it,” said Ben -Gvir. “You have to know it, it was like that throughout the story.”

The Palestinian Authority published a complaint following Ben-Gvir’s comments, saying that his comments constituted “state terrorism”.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority condemns the raid by the extremist minister Itamar Ben Gvir on the cell of commander Marwan al-Barghouti, threatening him directly. It is an unprecedented provocation and an organized state terrorism,” the statement said.

Barghouti, often called “Palestinian Mandela”, has long been considered a unifying figure among the Palestinians, according to the media line.
