Wife of slain NYPD Officer Didarul Islam gives birth to their third son

The wife of New York police officer killed Didarul Islam, one of the five people who died fatally in a height of Midtown Manhattan last month, a son said, police said on Monday.

Arham became the third child of Didarul and Jamila Islam, and they are all boys, said Jesica Tisch’s boys from the New York police on Monday afternoon.

“By tragedy, a new life has entered this world,” she said. “Arham joins his two big brothers, Ahyan and Azhaan. Together, they will pursue their father’s heritage of service and courage.”

Mayor Eric Adams said he was with family members of Islam in the hospital when Jamila was in work on Sunday.

“I know how special the birth of Arham is for this family who is always confronted with Heartbreak after losing their hero,” he said on X. “Our whole city stands with them and is there to support them.”

Islam, 36, worked in the hall of the 44-storey building on Park Avenue in New York on July 28, when the police said that Shane Tamura, 27, from Las Vegas, entered and immediately opened fire using a semi-automatic rifle.

Tisch later said that Islam was working in the building hall with the permission from the ministry as part of a program that allows agents to provide outside service but uniform.

On Monday, she noted her official title: the first year detective Didarul Islam. Adams said on MSNBC last month that Islam was the first NYPD officer of Bangladesh originally to be killed in the exercise of his functions.

After the attack, Adams said that those who knew the officer said that he “believed to live the life of a pious person”.

Tamura also shot a security guard and two civilians in the building before shooting himself fatally, the authorities said.

Adams said Tamura, who had finished cross-country training just before the attack, was trying to target the NFL headquarters, which has offices in the Park Avenue building, but entered the bad set of elevator banks and never reached the offices of the League.

Two familiar officials with the case told NBC News that the shooter, who had played football in high school in southern California, had left a note on the places that he wanted his brain to study for chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.

Neurodegenerative disorder associated with cranial trauma can cause behavioral and cognition changes and has been diagnosed in hundreds of NFL players after their death. Tamura, who never arrived at the NFL, had “documented mental health history,” said Las Vegas police.

Muhammad Mainul Islam, which identified itself as the cousin of Didarul Islam, told NBC New York that the officer was dedicated to the supply of his family and to raise his children.

“When he had time, and especially his days off, he went to the mosque with his two children,” he said.

Islam was assigned to the 47th Bronx district.

Patrick Hendry, president of the Benvolent Association police, said after the attack: “He went out every day to support his family, whether overtime or whatever he had to do.”

Tisch said in his statement on Monday that the newborn, his mother and his brothers were part of the NYPD fabric.

“Jamila, Ahyan, Azhaan and now, Arham will always be part of the NYPD family,” she said.
