Winner Declared in Texas Democrat Senate Primary – RedState

The Decision Desk Headquarters (DDHQ) declared James Talarico the winner of Tuesday’s Texas Democratic Senate primary, with Talarico garnering 53.1 percent of the vote at the time of publication. Jasmine Crockett received 45.6 percent, avoiding a runoff. To win, a candidate must receive 50 percent plus one vote.

Jasmine Crockett currently represents Texas’s 30th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. She threw her hat in the ring in the Senate race once it became clear she would be redistricted out of her House seat; his entry into the Democratic primary forced out former Congressman Colin Allred, who failed to beat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a 2024 head-to-head matchup.

James Talarico is a sitting state representative, a self-described “wannabe preacher” and, as it turns out, a fundraising giant in his own right. His most recent filing for the final quarter of 2025 shows he raised $7 million for a total of $13 million raised since announcing his candidacy.
Heading into Tuesday’s primary, polls showed the Crockett-Talarico matchup tightening after swinging wildly between the two. A January Emerson College poll gave Talarico a double-digit lead, but a recent University of Texas poll gave Crockett up 12 percent.
DDHQ showed things stabilizing at a Talarico/Crockett split of 48.5 percent to 45.6 percent. The prediction markets went crazy for Talarico on Tuesday, with Kalshi giving him a better than 90 percent chance of defeating Crockett.
Talarico will now face the winner of the Republican primary – John Cornyn and Ken Paxton are heading to a runoff – in next November’s general election.
Editor’s note: The 2026 midterm elections will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both houses of Congress.
