Apple would have weighed a potentially major change to its digital assistant: feeding a reworked SIRI with Google’s artificial intelligence tool.

According to Bloomberg, companies are first discussion on a partnership that could reshape Apple’s AIA for the iPhone, iPad and other Apple products. Although no agreement is in place, the talks report the growing emergency of Apple to follow the generative race of AI.

Siri, once a pioneer, has lagged behind his rivals of vocal assistants. Apple had planned to deploy a smarter Siri and led in AI in 2025 as part of its Apple Intelligence initiative, but the leaders delayed the launch until the spring of 2026, admitting that the first version was not reliable enough to ship. This reverse left Apple in a disadvantage while Samsung, Microsoft and Amazon advance with AI assistants who are more conversational and capable.

Apple has long been proud to control the technologies that make its products separate, but the generative AI has proven more difficult to master internally. To fill the ditch, Apple relied on the partners: Siri of today can already transport certain requests for Openai Chatgpt when its own models fail, and later this year, Apple Intelligence should upgrade this integration with GPT-5. You can call on Chatgpt to write help, an understanding of the image and complex questions directly via Siri, writing tools and visual intelligence.

This dependence highlights the fact that Apple’s own models are not yet competitive on the same scale as its rivals.

Apple would explore additional options, notably Claude d’Anthropic and, above all, the Gemini of Google. An agreement with Google would not only inject advanced capacities in Siri, it would echo a long -standing partnership between the two companies. Google is already paying billions a year to remain the default search engine on Safari, and a Gemini agreement could extend this relationship to the basic experience of Apple AI.

If the talks are advancing, we can see a very different SIRI emerge in the coming years: a less constrained, more conversational and propelled by the same AI which underlies Google’s own products.

Apple and Google did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company in April, filed a complaint against Chatgpt Maker Openai, alleging that it violated Ziff Davis Copyrights in the training and exploitation of its AI systems.)
