The New York Liberty was 9-0 and seemed to skyrocket as the title champions of the WNBA. But back on June 10, the problems were bubbling.

Strong Leonie Fiebich had just played his last Liberty match for a few weeks when she was heading for the Eurobasket tournament with Germany. Five days earlier, the Jonquel Jones center had undergone an ankle injury that would later be aggravated, which has cost him nine games so far this season.

Now, almost a month later, Liberty has a 12-6 sheet and had trouble playing regularly, for obvious reasons. With Jones – the MVP of the WNBA 2024 final – Out and Fiebich turn into the swing of things with New York, this team is not the same that started the hot season.

While the Liberty is preparing to welcome the Las Vegas Aces – a team that was more top this season than New York – Tuesday (8 p.m. HE, ESPN), Jones is again and striker Isabelle Harrison (knee) is questionable. After the 79 and 70 -year -old home loss on Sunday against the Seattle storm, New York coach Sandy Brondello said that freedom was struggling without the presence of Jones to fight opponents who change so effectively against them.

“We have turned a lot this year,” said Brondello. “As long as we have a good spacing then confidence, [we’re OK]. I think our confidence has disappeared. “”

But New York keeps things in perspective. In counting on Tuesday’s competition, the Liberty still have three games before the stars match, for which Breanna Stewart and the Sabrina Ionescu guard were elected. Freedom is not even halfway through their schedule and Hope Jones will be able to come back after the stars break.

“I think the morale of the team is great,” said Ionescu. “I would not say that a victory or a defeat really divided the locker room or even really put a type of bump on the road between us. We understand the pieces that were missing. We understand the games we lost and how we lost them.

“It’s not about pointing your fingers, people [being] Or in, the alignments that we have not seen, the defenses that we have not seen. It is simply a question of understanding that we must find a way to obtain a victory. “”

Phoenix suffered consecutive defeats, including 98-89 Thursday in Dallas. But the Mercury was alike again on Monday, beating the wings 102-72 behind 36 points from Sami Whitcomb and a triple-double by Alyssa Thomas (15 points, 15 assists, 10 rebounds). Phoenix won easily even if Sutou Sabally (ankle) and Kahleah Copper (hamstrings) were injured. This shows the depth of the mercury, which improves. The longtime Mercury player Dewanna Bonner, who was canceled last month by Indiana, is about to sign with Phoenix, sources in ESPN said on Monday.

After winning four of his previous five, Golden State returned to a record of 0,500 with defeats in Minnesota and Atlanta. But given the inconsistency of so many other WNBA teams, the Valkyries must still feel good enough about how they play – and on the selection of Kayla Thornton as a reserve of stars.

The fever continues to take momentum before letting it escape again. Caitlin Clark (groin injury) is always absent. But the fever won the final of the Minnesota Commissioner’s Cup, then strangled Las Vegas in Indianapolis, holding the two opponents below 60 points. However, they then lost at home against Los Angeles for the second time. Thus, Indiana always tries to establish it that it is better than a team of .500.

The aces were in a situation similar to that of fever, except more extreme. Las Vegas seems to have very good victories to very bad losses. After the defeat of AS 81-54 at Indiana on Thursday, coach Becky Hammon called their “lack of professionalism” in such a bad performance. But the ASs were on the right track on Sunday, winning 86-68 in Connecticut. We will see if they can continue.
