World’s largest 3D-printed schools offer these lessons for US

Qatar takes daring measures to transform its educational infrastructure. To direct this change, the country has launched one of the largest 3D printed construction projects in the world. UCC Holding and Public Works Authority (Ashghal) direct the effort. As part of the plan, Qatar will build 14 public schools. In particular, two of them will use advanced 3D printing technology.

This initiative directly supports Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritizes both innovation and sustainable growth. Using advanced construction methods and an avant-garde design, Qatar is positioned as a world leader in evolutionary and ecological architecture.

Bring the 3D printing construction experts

To combat a project of this scale, UCC Holding called on experts. The company has teamed up with the Danish firm Cobod, a world leader in 3D construction printing. Consequently, Cobod provided two massive and tailor -made bod2 printers. Each machine measures approximately 164 feet long, 90 feet wide and 49 feet high, the size of a Hangar Boeing 737.

These industrial printers can build structures up to five floors. They allow rapid, precise and profitable construction that traditional methods cannot correspond.

What is artificial intelligence (AI)?

Before launching the project, the team of architects, engineers and technicians from the UCC carried out in -depth tests. On a test site in Doha, they completed more than 100 prints of large -scale components using a BOD2 printer. To further prepare the Qatar desert climate, the team designed a personalized concrete mixture designed to heal properly on high heat. In addition, they have developed a special extrusion nozzle to ensure a smooth and precise impression.

A project of an incredible scale and vision

Each school printed in 3D is a two -story structure which will cover an area of 215,000 square feet. It is a total of 430,000 square feet. Compared to the largest 3D printed building we know, these schools are 40 times larger. They will be built on plots of 328 per 328 feet. Therefore, making this project an unprecedented scale for the region.

Qatar desert training was inspired behind the architectural design of schools. They have wavy walls that look like dunes, which can only be made possible thanks to 3D printing. The construction of these unique curved forms would be too expensive and difficult with traditional construction methods.

How 3D printing improves sustainability and innovation

The school project printed in 3D of Qatar goes beyond architectural innovation; It also marks a major step towards sustainable construction. 3D printing technology reduces material waste up to 60% compared to traditional construction methods.
