X’s Exclusive Threads feature lets creators paywall the end of tweet threads

Today, X announced some updates to its creator subscription platform. The main change gives participating accounts the ability to make a portion of threads visible only to followers. This new creator subscription feature is called Exclusive Threads, an ironic name choice given that X’s main competitor for text publishing on social media is called Threads.
The new tool allows a creator to tease paid content, rather than keeping all material behind a subscriber-only door. A gif shared by both the X Creators account and the company’s product manager, Nikita Bier, shows what this will look like in practice. Buttons to sign up as a subscriber will be integrated into the post channel, in the hope that the need to see the rest of the thread will be a big enough draw for readers to pay. X has worked to attract content creators, offering other recent features like a “paid partnership” label for sponsored posts.
