It didn’t take long. The iPad Air M4 was just released today and you can already get one with a (small) discount. The 128 GB wifi version of the new iPad Air is currently $749down from $799. While $50 or $800 isn’t a big discount, Amazon dropping the price of Apple’s latest flagship iPad on the day of its release is unusual. This price drop applies to the larger 13-inch model, while the smaller 11-inch iPad Air model is $559$40 off the list price of $599 and matching Walmart’s pre-order offer.

M3 iPad Air owners shouldn’t get too excited: there’s nothing notable here aside from the presence of the more powerful M4 chip, which could offer a notable improvement in efficiency over its predecessor. This is likely because it has an extra efficiency core compared to the M3 Air. The biggest difference, however, is the additional 4GB of RAM (12GB total). This means you can multitask for longer with multiple tabs and apps running.

According to Apple, this new iPad should be up to 30% faster than the previous generation, although we won’t know for sure until reviewers test it. Other upgrades include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread smart home compatibility. Other specs are the same: 12 MP rear and front cameras, USB-C connectivity with Touch ID, 10 hours of video playback, and 128 GB of storage for the base model.

What do you think of it so far?

If you still have the iPad M3 or another recent iPad, it’s probably not worth upgrading. However, if you own an older iPad (or none at all), this is a good opportunity to get Apple’s latest iPad at the best price you’re likely to see for a while.
