YouTube search gets its own version of Google’s AI Overviews

Google brings an AI type AI feature to another product: YouTube. The video streaming platform can now display a “carousel of research results fueled in AI” when some members of YouTube Premium in the United States do research related to “shopping, traveling or doing in a specific place”, according to a blog article.

As indicated in a video, the carousel of the search results will display a large video clip at the top, miniatures to a selection of other relevant video clips directly under this, and a little text generated by AIa responding to your request. To see a full video, press the big clip at the top of the carousel.

The functionality is currently only accessible on iOS and Android and for videos in English and will be available to test until July 30, according to the Youtube experiences page. In addition, only a “number selected at random from Premium members” will access it, says YouTube in an assistance document.

YouTube also widens its conversational AI tool which allows you to ask questions about a video to “certain non-premium users in the United States”. The functionality was initially introduced in 2023.
