18th century shipwreck discovered at ‘Game of Thrones’ filming location

It was a great year for unexpected shipwreck discoveries. Earlier this summer, the authorities located an Italian merchant ship from the 16th century to 8,422 feet from sea level near Saint -Tropez – the deepest wreck ever found in French waters. Now, marine archaeologists have confirmed another surprising ship, this time at a much less deep depth. A diver and a submarine manufacturer fell on the wooden wreck in a 18th century boat half-exposed to only three feet under the seabed near Dubrovnik, Croatia. The authorities are still investigating the site, but television fans can recognize the city: the UNESCO World Heritage Site was a main filming place for HBOs Game of Thrones.
According to the Associated PressThe sinking was spotted for the first time in April by the worker of the underwater construction Ivan Bukelic while examining a pipeline in the historic port of the city.
“I can now say that I discovered a boat in the old town of Dubrovnik,” said Bukelic AP. Although this is nothing else on the ship.
“We still cannot talk about the type of ship or its dimensions, but we can say with certainty, on the basis of the results of the analysis of the radiocarbon that he came from [the] At the end of the 18th century, âexplained archaeologist Marine Irena RadiÄ Rossi.
The story of Dubrovnik extends much further in time than the 1700s. Often known as “Adriatic pearl”, Dubrovnik is located on the Dalmatian coast not far from the Croatian border in the Southeast and increased significantly as a maritime center starting in the 13th century. A massive earthquake struck the city in 1667, but a large part of its mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture is still intact. The conservatives have also worked for years to repair and maintain the historic structures of Dubrovnik after new damage suffered during the Croatian war of independence throughout the 1990s.
Although HBO threw a ton of CGI additions on the theme of fantasy to Game of ThronesParties of the Adriatic pearl served as a backdrop to King’s Landing, Qarth and other places. Fortunately, Dubrovnik was not forced to endure the many brutal disasters that struck the capital of Westeros like the seat of Blackwater Bay and many other tragedies filled with spoilers. And unlike many Game of Thrones The characters, the fate of the recent discovery of shipwreck appears at least a little more optimistic. Rossi explained that the current plan is to work with the Croatia Ministry of Culture to perform additional examinations and work to preserve the ship.
“We have to protect him for the future,” she said.
