2025 MLB draft: Dodgers select a pair of Arkansas standouts

San Francisco – The first two choices of dodgers in the draft of this year’s MLB came consecutively to n ° 40 and 41 in total.
It turns out that their two selections also came from the same school, the team making the left launcher Zach Root and the Tags Contact Charles Davalan strikes from the University of Arkansas.
Root, a junior for the razorbacks this year, went to No. 40. A transfer from Caroline de l’Est, he had an average of 3.62 made this season with 126 stick withdrawals in 99⅓ sleeves. Screening reports have praised its mixture of versatile pitch, which includes a cursor, a curved ball and a change from funky delivery to Low-out.
Davalan, a second year eligible student, was also transferred to Arkansas last year after a season at the Côte du Gulf de Florida. He struck .346 for razorbacks with 14 circuits, 60 products produced and more walks (35) than stick withdrawals (27).
The two players were part of a team from Arkansas who won 50 games and reached the College World Series.
The two also appear to be key pieces of the future of Dodgers.
Although the dodgers have once again been enlisted from a high recovery choice – by choosing outside the top 30 for the third time in the last four years due to tax penalties of competitive balance – the team has acquired an additional selection in what is known as “competitive balance around A”, securing the global selection n ° 41 as Cincinnati Reds.
This meant, for the first time since 2019, the Dodgers made two top 5.
And when their selections were on the stopwatch, they identified the pair of teammates from the Southeast Conference.
Root is a native of Fort Myers, in Florida, who was recruit n ° 31 in the outgoing state of the school, according to Perfect Game.
After starting his university career in East Carolina, where he had a file of 9-5 and 4.43 MPM in two seasons, he managed to join the Arkansas heard, to win the honors of the first All-Sec team and all-American heads of the second and the third team.
Although he grew up in Florida, Root said he was a fan of childhood dodgers – thanks largely to another launcher on the left.
“Growing up, my father always made me look [Clayton] Kershaw and learn to launch like him, “said Root.” So, I just looked at Baseball Dodger since I remember, because of Kershaw. “”
Davalan took a resolutely more circuit road to the Dodgers.

Originally a Quebec childhood hockey player in Canada, Davalan moved to Florida while he was in high school during the Pandemie de Covid-19, enrolling in a specialized high school which allowed him to spend a large part of his days training as a baseball player.
“With Covid, many things have been closed in Canada,” said Davalan. “So decided to go and live in Florida, where the restrictions [weren’t there] And you could play 12 months of the year.
From there, the undersized Davalan – which is listed at 5 feet 9 inch and 190 pounds – obtained an offer from DI of FGCU, sufficiently impressed there to be transferred to Arkansas, then flourished in “One of the best strikers in the draft class, I think,” said Root about his teammate. “Doing it 41 is just a big flight for Dodgers.”
Davalan made similar praise on Root, calling him “a kind of old -fashioned launcher” who “has really filled the areas, but can always get his punchies when he needs to get out of the jam”.
“Old-School” was also an adjective that Davalan used to describe himself.
“I like to win. I like to play hard,” he said. “So that’s what I’m going to try to do. And I’m sure knowing the organization is filled with players like that, so I’m super excited just to meet new people.”
And, of course, have returned with one of his recent past.
“He is one of my best friends because of Arkansas,” said Root. “He’s a really great guy.”
“I guess I’m going to have to live with him in a few more years,” joked Davalan. “He’s great.”
