Immigration Agents Handcuff Democratic Lawmaker at Hospital E.R.
A progressive member of the Chicago Municipal Council was detained on Friday after putting pressure on federal agents about the rights of the regular procedure of an inmate detained in a hospital in his neighborhood.

“You have to leave,” replied the agent, threatening to arrest him. The other agent, a masked man, told Fuentes: “You will be put in arrest -“
Before being able to finish, his partner violently pulled Fuen’s arm with both hands, returned it and placed it in the handcuffs. We can hear a woman behind the camera saying: “It is a student who is [placed] Arrested! “
While being handcuffed, Fuentes wondered several times of a mandate for the injured man and apparently told men that the handcuffs hurt him. She stressed that she had not touched the agents, and the man who handcuffed her said that she was “in a state of arrest to hinder”.
“This man has constitutional rights,” repeated Fuentes, before the masked agent brought him to the exit door. “I didn’t touch you. It is a public space. I am not intrusion. I ask you: do you have a signed judicial mandate? ”
The masked agent finally replied that he did not need a mandate.
During a press conference, Fuentes said that she was finally brought outside, where agents of the border patrol were going to put it in a vehicle. However, she was released from her handcuffs, she said, asking, “What law did I put, apart from the exercise of my constitutional right to ask if they had a signed judicial mandate?”

Fuentes told the press that it was “not the first incident” of its kind, but “common practice” because “ice has taken individuals to hospital rooms, in emergency rooms, because people are injured while ice is trying to hold people in the city of Chicago.”
“What the ice is doing is to do violence,” she said, “physical violence on the inhabitants of Chicago.”
