TROY, Ala. — Four people died when a car pursued by an Alabama State Trooper left the road and struck a tree, authorities said Sunday.

The driver was attempting to elude Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Highway Patrol on a rural road in Pike County in southeast Alabama when the crash occurred late Friday evening, ALEA spokeswoman Amanda Wasden said in an email. No other vehicles were involved.

Wasden said the crash remains under investigation and no additional information is available. His email did not specify what prompted the suit.

The driver and two passengers, including a 17-year-old, were not wearing their seat belts and were ejected from the sedan. The third passenger was not ejected, but all four were pronounced dead at the scene.
