4 injured, suspect shot, police say

London – Police said they had shot a man suspected of a stab and a car list who injured four people in a synagogue Thursday in the English city north of Manchester on Yom Kippour, the holy day on the Jewish calendar.
Police from the Grand Manchester said in a series of positions on X that a major incident had been declared after a public member reported that he had “seen a car led to public members” and that “man had been stabbed” near the Heaton Park Hebrew synagogue in Crumpsall, an area known for his large Jewish community.
A few minutes later, the police said that a man “believing the offender” had been shot by police.
“The paramedical paramedics arrived at the scene at 9:41 a.m. (4:41 a.m.) and take care of the public members, currently four public members with injuries caused by the vehicle and injuries by stab.” The force said on X.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who was at a European summit in Copenhagen, told journalists that he immediately returned to London to chair a Cobra meeting, the UK’s emergency intervention committee.
“I am already able to say that additional police assets are deployed in synagogues across the country, and we will do everything to ensure the security of our Jewish community,” he said.
Andy Burnham, the mayor of the Grand Manchester region, told BBC radio that “the immediate danger seems to be finished”.
He said that fire arms agents had been deployed “while police continued to receive other reports from public members that a security officer was attacked with a knife.”
The Northwest Ambulance Service said in a statement that he “evaluated the situation and worked with other members of the emergency services”.
“Our priority is to guarantee that people receive the medical aid they need as quickly as possible,” he said.
Earlier, Starmer said he was “dismayed” by the attack in a post on X.
“The fact that this took place on Yom Kippour, the most holy day of the Jewish calendar, makes it even more horrible. My thoughts are with those close to all those affected, and my thanks go to emergency services and all the first stakeholders,” said Starmer, whose woman Victoria is Jewish.
Community Security Trust, a Jewish charity that provides security services, said that it “worked with the police and the local Jewish community”.
“It seems to be a terrible attack on the holy day of the Jewish year,” added the group in a press release on X.
