A recent Financial Times Analysis of S&P 500 filings found that 374 companies mentioned AI during their earnings calls last year – and nearly nine in 10 described it in glowing terms. However, when asked to explain this increase, most executives fell back on vague promises of as-yet-unrealized “productivity gains.” Additionally, their annual reports were much clearer on the risks than the tangible benefits.
