Master of None

A midlife crisis in New York

If you’re looking for a laid-back comedy-drama to indulge in, don’t skip Master of None featuring Parks and Recreation Aziz Ansari. The series follows Dev Shah, a thirty-something actor in New York, trying to figure out his life, from love and career to starting a family and meeting his family’s expectations. Through Dev and his group of friends, the series explores modern dating, family, cultural identity, and the ups and downs of everyday life. The third season of the series, Moments in Love, shifts the perspective to another character, Denise (The Chi Léna Waithe).

Master of None won three Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

Esoteric

The battle of two worlds

I may be biased here, but we can’t discuss Emmy-winning shows without mentioning my favorite Netflix animated program to date. Set in the League of Legends universe, Esoteric is a steampunk animated action series that focuses on the story of sisters Violet and Powder (Jinx) as they navigate conflict amid the tensions between a utopia (Piltover) and an underground dystopia (Zaun). Orphaned, the two sisters embark on a heist in Piltover when they are young, setting off a chain of events that culminate in something bigger than themselves.

Esoteric won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 2022, becoming the first streaming series to do so. Whether you’re a fan of League or not, this is a show you can watch without context and fully enjoy thanks to its incredible animation and storytelling.

Our planet

A superb lesson in nature and cinema

Making information-rich documentaries can be time-consuming; Our planet took years. This is one of the most breathtaking and insightful science and nature documentaries you can stream. This nature series, which is also the first nature documentary made by Netflix, is narrated by David Attenborough and led by the creators of other impactful nature documentaries, such as Blue planet And Planet Earth. From the narwhals of the Canadian Arctic to the Bengal tiger in India, the documentary covers a wide range of habitats across Earth, focusing on the impact of climate change on wildlife around the world.

The Crown

Royalty also has skeletons in their closet

When it comes to winning Emmys, no Netflix show has done better than The Crown. This popular historical drama brings together British royalty (and all the drama surrounding them) over its six seasons. It traces the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her marriage to the start of the 21st century, including the life and death of Princess Diana, the tenure of Margaret Thatcher, and the crises the royal family faced over the course of six decades. With a new cast of recurring characters throughout its run and performances that grab your attention every minute, this is one of the best shows to add to your watchlist if you’re a fan of historical dramas that dramatize and entertain.

The Crown holds the record for most Emmy wins for an original program broadcast online with 24 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and seven Casting Awards.
