‘Can’t see the fielder’: Tilak Varma, Jamie Overton clash as Suryakumar Yadav joins in – Watch

Tensions flared at the Wankhede Stadium as the IPL 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings witnessed a heated on-field altercation involving Tilak Varma and Jamie Overton, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav also intervening in the confrontation.
The flashpoint happened on the last ball of the 10th over during Mumbai Indians’ chase. Tilak pushed a slower delivery from Overton towards mid-wicket and initially asked for two. However, Suryakumar refused, forcing the batter to settle for a single. What followed was an intense verbal exchange that quickly attracted the attention of players and officials.
A heated exchange midway triggers drama
As Overton crossed after his follow-up, Tilak appeared irritated, saying his vision had been obstructed. “I can’t see the fielder,” said the young batter, clearly unhappy with the bowler’s movement in his field of vision.
Overton didn’t hold back, responded immediately, and the situation escalated within seconds. Suryakumar, known for his calm, surprisingly joined in the exchange, defending his teammate as the confrontation became more heated.
Sensing the tension, on-field referees rushed in and separated the players before things got worse. Play resumed shortly after, but the incident added a fiery twist to an already high-stakes encounter between the two five-time champions.

Handshake heals as CSK dominates
Despite the mid-match flare-up, calmer spirits prevailed after the match. During the customary post-match handshakes, Tilak and Overton were seen sharing a brief embrace, putting the incident behind them in the true spirit of the game.
But on the pitch, it was a one-sided fight. CSK enjoyed a sensational unbeaten century thanks to Sanju Samson, who smashed 101 off just 54 balls to propel his team to 207/6.
MI’s chase never took off as Akeal Hosein starred with a four-wicket haul, bundled out the hosts for just 104 and sealing a massive 103-run victory. Contributions from the bowlers, including Overton, kept CSK in control throughout.
The victory propelled CSK to fifth place in the table, while MI slipped to eighth place, dealing another blow to their campaign.
