What’s better than a new watch list for your next long weekend? How about a watchlist full of Oscar-winning films over the years? I love discovering new and old award-winning films, which has led me to niche winners that fly under the Big Five radar.
Netflix is home to an extensive library of Oscar-winning films, ranging from original films to licensed titles that you can only watch for a limited time. Here are five Oscar-winning films you can stream on Netflix this weekend.
No time to die
An iconic, modern Bond favorite where the world is at stake
Daniel Craig’s latest film James Bond series, No time to die, is a visual and sonic masterpiece. This is a must-see movie if you’re a fan of the British MI6 agent. In his new mission, Bond finds himself back in the field after his retirement when a scientist is kidnapped, tasked with finding a mysterious villain holding technology that could spell doom.
At the 94th Academy Awards, the Bond film received nominations for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects and won Best Original Song (Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell), becoming the third Bond film to win this honor after Skyfall And Spectrum. Anatomy of a fall
A thrilling thriller that examines a relationship
An intense foreign language film that is easily one of the best films released in recent times is Anatomy of a fall. This gripping thriller follows novelist Sandra Voyter, who is investigated for murder after the death of her husband, Samuel. The trial and subsequent events unravel the threads of their complex relationship, including their arguments and friction, with confusion over whether Samuel was actually murdered or committed suicide. The mental state of their son Daniel and Samuel being examined, Sandra’s fate remains unresolved.
Anatomy of a fall received five nominations at the 96th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress (Sandra Hüller), and won Best Original Screenplay.

The only girl in the orchestra
Take a look at one of the pioneers in music history
For a sweet, short watch on Netflix this weekend, try The only girl in the orchestra. This A heartfelt music documentary follows the life and career of pioneering double bassist Orin O’Brien, who became the first woman to join the New York Philharmonic in 1966. The short film delves into the bassist’s life, her support system, her remarkable career and her students as she reflects on the past after her retirement. The documentary is intimate and slow-paced, which might give you a nice break from a faster-paced watchlist.
The film won the Best Documentary Short Film award at the 97th Academy Awards. It was directed by O’Brien’s niece, Molly O’Brien.
Atonement
An all-star cast delivers an epic, decades-spanning war tragedy
An Oscar-winning film with some of my favorite actors in its cast is Atonementa romantic war tragedy starring James McAvoy and Keira Knightley, with supporting actors including Saoirse Ronan and Romola Garai. Set over a period of six decades, the film follows a fateful event and its aftermath: wealthy young Briony Tallis misinterprets the relationship between her older sister, Cecilia, and the housekeeper’s son, Robbie Turner. Following this incident and another case of mistaken identity, Briony accuses Robbie of a terrible crime, setting off a chain of events.
Of its seven Academy Award nominations, it won Best Original Score.

Bohemian Rhapsody
This one didn’t bite the dust at the Oscars
The final recommendation for your Oscar-studded watchlist this year might be one of the most hyped films. Bohemian Rhapsody is a gripping biographical drama that charts the rise of the legendary rock band Queen, with a particular focus on its charismatic frontman, Freddie Mercury. The film follows Freddie’s journey from an underdog with big dreams to a superstar at the head of a musical movement, capturing both the group’s creative breakthroughs and the tensions that come with fame. It also covers Freddie’s personal issues, integrating his struggles and identity into the plot.
Bohemian Rhapsody won four awards at the 91st Academy Awards for Best Actor (Rami Malek), Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing, making it the film with the most wins at that year’s ceremony.
