‘Worst Possible Poster Child’: Scott Jennings Reminds CNN Panel Letitia James Ran On Targeting Trump

Salem Radio Network host Scott Jennings recalled Thursday that Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James campaigned on a promise to target President Donald Trump during a discussion about his indictment for mortgage fraud.
A federal grand jury indicted James on Thursday on two counts relating to allegations of mortgage fraud involving a home in Norfolk, Virginia. Jennings said on “CNN NewsNight” that James’ claims that she was targeted for political reasons rang hollow, citing her background. “Look, I mean, Letitia James is the worst possible illustration of the selective prosecution argument. Her entire political career has been focused on the idea of selectively prosecuting one person, Donald J. Trump,” Jennings said.

“Whether you think the merits of the case are strong or weak, or how you think this is going to play out, to go out tonight and cry and complain and fuss about selective prosecution when it comes to Letitia James, who ran an entire campaign saying she was going to go after Trump, the cases that she brought, it’s all because of Trump, I don’t think the American people are going to have too much sympathy for that,” continued Jennings. “But she will be able to go to court, she will be able to make her case and we will see what happens.”
James sued Trump in September 2022, alleging that he overestimated the value of his real estate to obtain loans. This came after she promised to investigate Trump during her first campaign for attorney general in 2018, during which she called him an “illegitimate president.”
A New York appeals court ruled in August that the $355 million civil fine issued by New York Judge Arthur Engoron in February 2024 violated the Eighth Amendment’s ban on excessive fines.
James also made several statements showing hostility toward the National Rifle Association during his 2018 campaign for attorney general. She promised to “target the NRA” in a campaign statement released in July 2018, pledging to “investigate the legitimacy of the NRA as a charitable institution.”
“The NRA holds [itself] as a charity, but in fact, [it] Really [is] a terrorist organization,” she told Ebony magazine during her 2018 campaign. (RELATED: NRA Scores Legal Victory Against NY AG Letitia James)
James sued the gun rights organization in August 2020, demanding that the group be disbanded. A New York judge, Joel M. Cohen, ruled that James could not seek the dissolution of the NRA in March 2022.
