FIRST ON FOX: A Republican House lawmaker is proposing to block federal funds from New York City for as long as Zohran Mamdani is mayor.
The new legislation spearheaded by Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., is called the Keeping America’s Money Away from Anti-National Interests Act, or the “MAMDANI Act” for short.
The bill’s two-page text stated that “notwithstanding any other provision of law, during any period that Zohran Mamdani is Mayor of New York, New York,” that “all unobligated federal funds available” to the city “are hereby canceled” and that “no federal funds may be obligated or expended for any purpose in New York, New York.”

The 34-year-old socialist won the New York City mayor’s race on Tuesday, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo as an independent and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
His victory was no surprise to election observers; New York City has not elected a Republican mayor since Michael Bloomberg won a second term in 2005.
Although Carter’s bill is unlikely to pass the House, it symbolizes how the Republican Party has been hyperfocused on Mamdani’s victory, with Republican leaders in the House positioning him as the new leader of the Democratic Party.

A House Republican campaign operative reported to Fox News Digital on Wednesday that the Republican Party would seek to tie vulnerable Democrats across the country to Mamdani and his far-left platforms.
Carter, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Georgia, said his state’s taxpayer dollars “should not be wasted on programs that would bankrupt the world’s financial capital.”

“If New Yorkers want communism, we should allow them to achieve their wish and not artificially support them with our thriving capitalist system,” Carter said. “Any New Yorker with common sense is welcome in the great and FREE State of Georgia.”
Historically, New York State has sent more taxpayer money to the federal government than it has received.
