SECWAR Pete Hegseth Faces New, and Senseless, Democratic Impeachment Effort – RedState

In the latest round of “futile and stupid moves by Democrats,” Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) has filed articles of impeachment not against President Trump, but against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

Yes, really.

House Democrats filed articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Wednesday.

The articles of impeachment include five separate charges related to the Signal chat leak last year, the war in Iran and an alleged “abuse of power.”

Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03), who filed the articles, posted a video on X announcing the move. “What we saw from the Trump administration this weekend was absolutely horrific and heartbreaking,” she said. “The threats against Iranian civilian infrastructure and against the entire Iranian country are unreal and apocalyptic. »

This appears to be the Democrats’ current solution: impeachment. It’s an element of the famous “Otter Gambit”, a reference to the famous (and hilarious) old movie Animal House, in which one of the main characters, nicknamed Otter, played by Tim Matheson, inflames his fraternity by shouting: “This situation calls for a really futile and stupid move on someone’s part.”

Rep. Ansari weighed in on cosplaying as John Belushi, apparently saying, “And we’re just the guys to do it.” And this is where she really gets into the whole “futile and stupid gesture” part of it all. Here, look:

Here’s the problem: This isn’t going anywhere fast, and Rep. Ansari knows it. She doesn’t care. She’s not taking Pete Hegseth’s impeachment seriously any more than she is about the 25th Amendment proceedings against President Trump – yes, she insists on that point too:

Trump is escalating a devastating and illegal war, threatening massive war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran. In the last 48 hours alone, the rhetoric has crossed all limits. Pete Hegseth is complicit.

The message continues:

…and I present articles of impeachment against Hegseth.

Rep. Ansari, let’s face it, is not a serious person. Sensible people won’t take it seriously, and that’s for sure. But she only takes one thing seriously: throwing red meat at the Democratic Party’s pro-slavery base.

You would have to be crazier than a left-wing Democrat to think that any article of impeachment against the Secretary of War would end up anywhere other than a round file in the current Republican House of Representatives. Oh, now, if the Democrats somehow take control of the House in this year’s midterms, just watch, because it will be a veritable impeach-a-Palooza that will make President Trump’s first term look like a warm-up exercise; not only the president, but most of the Cabinet will be subject to this, and perhaps a Supreme Court justice or two into the bargain. So in that sense, Rep. Ansari could be embarking on a dress rehearsal of sorts.

For now, though, this effort has only one goal: to allow Rep. Ansari to face her far-left base and tell them, “Look, I tried to impeach Pete Hegseth, and I tried to impeach President Trump, because Orange Man Bad. » She knows that the far left will applaud her efforts like a pack of trained seals, and she also knows that it will motivate them to vote for her in November.

That’s what it’s about. It is all it’s about.
