‘We Have to Make America Great Again. We’ll Start in November’

French actor George Clooney has hit back at President Donald Trump’s sarcastic remarks about him and urged Americans to oust Republicans from power in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
Clooney attacked President Trump in an interview with Variety released Monday, and the president responded in no uncertain terms, trolling Clooney for his many “mediocre” films and celebrating the fact that Clooney is now a French citizen and has left the United States
Trump announced the “good news” on New Year’s Eve on his Truth Social account, calling Clooney and his wife, Amal, “two of the worst political prognosticators of all time.”
“Good news! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, unfortunately, in the middle of a major crime problem due to their absolutely horrible handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump said.
“Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe at a fundraiser, only to side with another star candidate, Jamala (K!), who is now fighting with the worst governor in the country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, over who will lead the Democrats to their future defeat,” Trump added.
“Clooney got more publicity for politics than for his very few, totally mediocre films. He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who constantly complained about common sense in politics. LET’S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the president concluded.
In response, Clooney predicted that Democrats would take control of the Senate and House in the next election. “I totally agree with the current president,” he said. “We must make America great again. We will start in November,” he wrote, according to Variety.
Trump is right about Clooney’s films. As a “movie star”, Clooney does not have much box office success on his own and has rarely had anything approaching a success. His most profitable film, Gravity ($716 million at the box office), is undoubtedly Sandra Bullock’s film more than hers. And his next five films grossing more than $200 million are ensemble films, as opposed to George Clooney’s solo efforts. Few of his solo efforts have made a difference. And even the films that earned him Oscar nominations didn’t exceed $100 million at the box office.
In his Variety In the interview, Clooney poured out a series of false claims about Trump and his performance in office that the newspaper reported uncritically.
In one segment, Clooney debunked false claims that the U.S. economy is doing poorly and that Americans are paying higher costs than during the Biden years.
“Frankly, this is economic stupidity,” Clooney exclaimed. “It costs more today than when Joe Biden left office. And powerful people tend to exaggerate. I think cruelty, like separating children from their parents, while popular with small groups of people, doesn’t sit well with most Americans.”
Clooney, however, seems blissfully unaware that the costs of basic necessities are falling in most cases for average Americans who don’t live in multimillion-dollar French villas. Gasoline is now almost half the price when Biden was in office, food is cheaper, rents are down slightly, travel is less expensive, wages are up, jobs for Americans are up, and inflation is lower than the bad old days of Biden. And growth is running at 4.3%, far higher than Biden’s dismal 2.3% growth rate in 2024. All of this has happened since Trump took office for his bifurcated second term.
Clooney then poured out another Hollywoodism, saying that Trump’s “popularity is very low and it’s not going to come back up.” That’s not true either. Trump’s popularity rating has at least remained stable and has sometimes even increased.
