DHS Sec Noem Makes Announcement About New CBP Shooting in Minneapolis – RedState

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem shared the latest news on Saturday’s shooting in Minneapolis during a press conference at FEMA headquarters Saturday afternoon.
Close. Trump and Democratic leaders at the state and federal level also had their say, as RedState wrote shortly after news of the shooting, which occurred as Border Patrol agents were conducting an immigration operation. One person, identified as a 37-year-old man by local law enforcement, was shot and killed.

Second. Noem began her speech by saying she wanted to “address the tragic situation that we saw… that took place in the streets” as DHS officers “carried out their lawful duties”:

She repeated the criminal history previously outlined by CBP Commander Bovino (see link below for details) for the illegal alien suspect the agents were attempting to capture, and described the incident on scene.
After the shooting, hundreds of protesters arrived and began throwing objects at the police. In the melee, she said, an officer’s finger was bitten, which Assistant DHS Sec. Tricia McLaughlin shared in an X post.

Second. Noem denounced Governor Walz’s inflammatory remarks during her Saturday afternoon press conference:
.@Sec_Noem: “The governor of Minnesota and the mayor of Minneapolis need to take a long, hard look in the mirror. They need to evaluate their rhetoric, their conversations, and their encouragement of such violence against our citizens and law enforcement officers.” pic.twitter.com/RcD1qbqkZR

“In other cities and states, we don’t see this [violence] This is happening,” Noem said, pointing to cities like Memphis, Tennessee, where state and local officials are providing assistance to officers. She compared this behavior with what they’re seeing in Minnesota, saying that “In Minneapolis, Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, they’re choosing violence instead…It seems like they want this lawlessness to continue.”
She announced that the administration and DHS were making two requests of Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey:
.@Sec_Noem: “The two things we asked for @GovTimWalz And @MaireFrey because they would partner with us and before they let someone dangerous out of prison, they would let us know so we could kick them out of our country. I don’t know why they continue… pic.twitter.com/tCmSKMWbD4

“When they want to release a dangerous criminal from their prisons, hand him over to us, so we can get him out of the country as quickly as possible.” Noem said MN officials released 490 criminals onto the streets in the first year of Pres. Trump’s second term.
The second asks: “Just give us backup on the streets” for DHS agents.
Noem explained that Democrats chose not to do this because they would prefer that people not talk about the extensive reporting of alleged Somali daycares and other fraud “that they facilitated in Minnesota.”
She confirmed during questioning by a reporter that her department was leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Noem went on to say that when people bring weapons to protest a law enforcement operation, that makes it a “violent riot.” She warned that no one should be distracted from the attack on the CBP agent and that the agents were tracking a violent criminal.
.@Sec_Noem: “This individual showed up to prevent a law enforcement operation and assaulted our officers. They responded according to their training…this is a violent riot, when someone shows up with weapons and you use them to assault law enforcement officers.” pic.twitter.com/wkXj8mIFzA

She hammered home the fraud that stole aid and services from ordinary Americans, which Democrats “allowed, and now they want to perpetuate the violence” and do “a cover-up.” She also reminded the media that some of these politicians have been subpoenaed as part of the ongoing fraud investigation.
“This individual obstructed law enforcement and attacked them,” she said when asked by a reporter why citizens were drawn into the operations of federal agents. “These officers took action to defend their lives and the lives of those around them, and acted in accordance with their training.”
“We are going to continue to let this process move forward and not allow people like Governor Walz and Mayor Frey to lie about what really happened on this street,” or to “distract” the work of law enforcement, she added.
Walz “argued that the previous administration allowed” the debacle at the border, with the influx of illegal immigrants into the country. Noem also highlighted the “rings” that brought in drugs and committed human trafficking under Biden, and which will “stop” under the President. Trump’s watch.
This is a developing story. We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
