At least four people were killed and 19 others injured in kyiv after Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine overnight, authorities said Friday.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a doctor was among the dead and four caregivers were injured.

Critical infrastructure was hit in the attack and parts of the city were without power and water, he wrote on Telegram.

In the west of the country, the Western Command of the Ukrainian Air Force said a Russian strike on Lviv was carried out using an unidentified ballistic missile.

The Ukrainian military said the missile was launched from the Kapustin Yar test range in Astrakhan, Russia, a known launch site for the Oreshnik ballistic missile.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said it was not yet known whether it was an Oreshnik missile.

“The military will provide information,” Sadovyi wrote on Telegram.

He said explosions had been recorded in Lviv, but there was currently no information on casualties. The city’s civilian facilities and residential buildings were not damaged, he added.

Russia fired an Oreshnik missile at the Ukrainian industrial city of Dnipro in November 2024.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Western air defense systems were incapable of intercepting the Oreshnik, which means hazel in Russian. He also said it could hit targets as far away as Western Europe.

Western military analysts say Oreshnik is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
