Trump Talks ‘Criminals’ Wrecking OR Fed Bldg., Puts Dem Officials on Notice – RedState

On Friday night into Saturday morning, a far-left roving mob was unleashed on federal law enforcement officials in Eugene, Oregon, destroying the federal building/courthouse in the process. And as you will see, it wasn’t just a building that was attacked. We’ll talk about that in a minute.
Independent journalists like our friend Andy Ngo and Kate Harnedy provided video and photos of the chaotic melee:
Eugene, Ore. (Jan. 30) — Antifa and far-left rioters who surrounded the federal building are being dispersed with pepper spray. The college town is infected with radical left-wing politics that regularly turns into political violence. pic.twitter.com/B1S9n8zZF0

In the morning light, Katie Daviscourt had this clip showing the major damage and vandalism to federal property, including numerous broken windows:

And here is a report from the local newspaper The Oregonian on the terror that has been taking place on a daily basis by people who have nothing to do with DHS (Depatment of Homeland Security) or ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) operations in Minnesota or anywhere else in the country:
Rioters broke windows and forced their way into the federal courthouse in Eugene, frightening court staff (the furthest thing from ICE agents you can imagine). The rioters say they are protesting the deaths in Minnesota, which fall outside the jurisdiction of the U.S. District Court in Oregon that they attacked. @Oregonian pic.twitter.com/7pFHBl8cIX

As we wrote recently, police departments across the country are increasingly reporting anti-ICE and other left-wing rioters acting against normal Americans in their daily lives.

As RedState wrote earlier Saturday, the Trump administration received some good news on the legal side of immigration operations, with Judge Katherine Menendez of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota rejecting the state’s request to bar the Department of Homeland Security from launching its “Operation Metro Surge” there.

President Trump took to his Truth Social account on Saturday and explained where he sees things now, particularly regarding the groups and individuals who rioted in Eugene, mentioning that they scared innocent employees of the courthouse at the federal building on Friday:

The president began by writing that he had “instructed Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem that under no circumstances will we participate in various mismanaged Democratic cities regarding their protests and/or riots unless and until they ask us for assistance.”
Then he talked about the game plan for the future, when ICE or Border Patrol agents and federal buildings are under siege by the “highly paid madmen, agitators and insurrectionists”:
We will, however, very powerfully guard any federal buildings that are attacked by these highly paid madmen, agitators, and insurrectionists. Please note that I have asked ICE and/or Border Patrol to be very aggressive in this protection of federal government property. There will be no spitting in the faces of our officers, there will be no punching or kicking of the headlights of our cars, and there will be no throwing rocks or bricks at our vehicles or at our Patriot Warriors. If so, these people will face equal, if not greater, consequences.
Close. Trump went on to remind state and local government officials of their responsibilities for property security in their areas, writing: “[i]In the meantime, by copying this statement, I am informing local governments, as I did in Los Angeles during the riots at the end of the Biden term, that you must protect your own state and local properties.
But they’re also legally required to do something else, he said, something the Trump administration is tasked with doing “only as a relief”:
Additionally, it is your duty to also protect our federal properties, buildings, parks and everything else. We are here to protect federal property, only as a back-up, to the extent that it is a local and state responsibility to do so.
Trump spoke at this point about the incredible actions of the “criminals” that took place overnight in Eugene, and what the White House will do next time if local leaders continue to forbid their police officers from “stopping.”[ping] “There is, however, a difference: [emphasis added]
Last night in Eugene, Oregon, these criminals broke into a federal building and caused great damage, also frightening and harassing hard-working employees. The local police did nothing to stop him. We won’t let this happen again! If local governments are unable to deal with insurgents, agitators and anarchists, we will immediately go to the place where this help is requestedand handle the situation very easily and methodically…
Trump referenced a time when this happened, in Los Angeles in 2025, and how local police praised the help of the federalized National Guard, stating that “the police chief said, ‘We couldn’t have done it without help from the federal government.’
This is where the president didn’t mince his words, directly addressing all the politicians who are “complaining” about how exactly this is going to play out:
Therefore, to all the local governments, governors and mayors who are complaining, let us know when you are ready, and we will be there. But before you do, you need to use the word “PLEASE”.
“Remember I said, in the strongest language, to BE CAREFUL: ICE, the Border Patrol or, if necessary, our military, will be extremely strong and tough in protecting our federal property,” Trump added. “We will not allow our courthouses, federal buildings, or anything under our protection to be damaged in any way. I was elected on the basis of a policy of border control (which is now perfected!), national security, and LAW AND ORDER – That’s what America wants, and that’s what America gets! Thank you for your attention to this issue.”
This means that it is mayors like Jacob Frey of Minneapolis or Zohran Mamdani of New York, governors like Gavin Newsom of California, Kathy Hochul of New York, JB Pritzker of Illinois or Tim Walz of Minnesota (or even other members of their administrations, like AG Keith Ellison), as well as any local officials sympathetic to the Resistance, that they should consider themselves to be warned by this WH. Play!
Editor’s Note: Democratic politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents who enforce our immigration laws.
