Hillary Clinton now says mass migration has gone too far.

The former secretary of state and two-time presidential candidate acknowledged Saturday that uncontrolled immigration has created serious problems, a stark reversal from her previous positions on the issue.

“There is a legitimate reason to have a debate on topics like migration,” Clinton said during a panel at the Munich Security Conference in Germany. “It’s gone too far, it’s been disruptive and destabilizing, and it needs to be addressed in a humane way with secure borders that don’t torture and kill people and how we’re going to have a strong family structure because that’s the basis of civilization.” (RELATED: More Democrats Want to Abolish ICE. Clinton participated in a session titled “The West-West Divide: What Remains of Common Values,” during which she described immigration as a major point of contention, ANI News reported. She also defended her husband and former President Barack Obama’s deportation records, saying they removed more people from the country than President Donald Trump without detaining children or causing deaths among U.S. citizens.

Her comments over the weekend stood in stark contrast to positions she advocated during her run for the White House in 2016. Fox News reported that Clinton supported Obama’s executive orders protecting millions of undocumented parents and children from enforcement action.

She opposed a significant expansion of border barriers and pushed for the elimination of family detention centers. She also sought to reduce immigration raids, which she said were creating “unnecessary fear and disruption in communities” at the time.

Clinton’s tone on law enforcement has changed dramatically over the years. In 2018, she blasted the Trump administration on social media, writing that separating families at the border was “an absolute disgrace,” according to Fox News. Last year, she praised legal and illegal immigrants for strengthening the U.S. economy by increasing the workforce.
