EXCLUSIVE: Top Trump Official Reveals Main GOP Message For 2026 Midterms

White House deputy chief of staff James Blair revealed to the Daily Caller what the administration’s main message is heading into the 2026 midterms, following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union.
The president set the tone for the 2026 midterm elections during his State of the Union address on Tuesday, drawing a stark contrast between his administration and former President Joe Biden’s tenure. Blair told the caller that the GOP would build on that message, while focusing on how to make life more affordable for Americans. “The message for the rest of the year is that we want to continue to make life more affordable for working families,” Blair told the caller.
“Look, under the reckless policies of Joe Biden and the Democrats, we’ve had high inflation for four decades, to get a 30-year mortgage, a fixed rate mortgage, was almost 8%. Now it’s in the high fives, it’s down below 6%, and just a year after he took office,” Blair continued, listing other economic statistics, including falling gas prices.
Blair told the caller that the GOP will emphasize to voters that they need to be elected in 2026 and beyond to avoid a repeat of the policies of Biden and other Democrats. The approach is similar to how the president decided Tuesday night to remind Americans of the policies Biden pursued before his second term.
“I think I remind voters that there’s another side to this coin, that things don’t get better on their own,” Blair told the Caller.
“The border is a good example of that. Remember when the Democrats and Joe Biden were saying, ‘Well, we need to change the laws, and that will help us control the border.’ undo the progress that has been made.
The caller interviewed Blair during the media feud at the White House after the president’s State of the Union address. The full interview, which includes more of the administration’s plans for the midterm elections, how the president is preparing for his big speeches and what Blair really thinks of Texas Democratic State Rep. James Talarico and Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett, can be seen below:
