Fetterman Torches Democrats for Refusing to Admit Trump’s Iran Strike Made World Safer – RedState

For years, Democrats have insisted that Iran must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.

Now that a military operation ordered by President Donald Trump appears to have significantly set back that goal, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) asks a direct question.

Why don’t Democrats admit it?

In an interview broadcast Wednesday evening, the Pennsylvania Democrat reminded viewers that warnings about Iran’s nuclear ambitions have long been bipartisan.

“I would just like to remind everyone watching that every Democratic presidential candidate has consistently emphasized that Iran is a major security issue, and every Democrat in the Senate and House has said that we can never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb. »

Fetterman also highlighted comments made by former Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential campaign, when she identified Iran as one of her top international concerns.

This history, he suggested, makes the current reaction from some Democrats difficult to explain.

“Now someone has made that virtually impossible after this operation. I really don’t understand why Democrats can’t even recognize that this has made the world safer and more secure, not just for all of us, but especially for the region.”

Fetterman recognized the political reality of the moment. In today’s climate in Washington, agreeing with a president from the opposing party can have consequences.

“The only thing I can understand is that it was Donald Trump who did it, and now I know it’s punitive as a Democrat to agree with the president on anything.”

This dynamic, he argued, has created a strange political situation in which politicians are reluctant to acknowledge an outcome they previously said they supported.

“When something happens that all Democrats say we agree with, I don’t see why you would want to just criticize that, instead of recognizing that it’s a good thing.”

Fetterman has been particularly outspoken about the strike in recent days. As RedState previously reported, he also fired back at a press rally when reporters repeatedly pressed him to criticize the operation, at one point bluntly noting that “one of the most evil people on the face of the earth was wiped out” by the strike and asking why anyone would claim the outcome wasn’t a good thing.

The broader point he made in the last interview is harder to dismiss.

For years, Democrats and Republicans have argued that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is a fundamental national security priority. This position has been repeated through sanctions, negotiations and diplomatic efforts involving multiple administrations.

Fetterman’s question was simple.

If stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions was always the goal, why is it suddenly so difficult for many Democrats to recognize an operation that could have brought the world closer to that outcome?
