Tomb Raider I–III Remastered is free via Epic Games Store for a week

Few game series manage to match the cultural impact of tomb Raider– and now is the perfect opportunity to experience the beginnings of Lara Croft for yourself, except with updated graphics and controls that have been brought up to modern standards.

Tomb Raider I–III remastered with Lara Croft is now available for free via the Epic Games Store. It includes the first three games in the franchise as well as all expansions released for them:

• Tomb Raider I (1996) + Unfinished Business expansion
• Tomb Raider II (1997) + Golden mask expansion
• Tomb Raider III (1998) + The lost artifact expansion

The first three installments were originally developed and published by Core Design, but these remasters were developed by current licensee Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Aspyr.

Code from the original game was used for these remasters, but the visuals were greatly improved with many improvements and the controls were tweaked (as Lara Croft initially behaved like a tank). While the gameplay still takes some getting used to, it should now be much easier overall to shoot and climb with Lara.

If you wish, you can return to classic graphics, and it is also possible to modify the different levels and play them in a special challenge mode. (This mode was added later, as were 10 new outfits for Lara.)

Why this free game is worth grabbing

On Metacritic, the Remastered The collection received fairly positive ratings and averaged 75 points. Reviewers praised Lara Croft’s timeless adventure, available in all three games.

A lot of tomb RaiderThe particularities of have been preserved so as not to alter the heart of the games too much. However, modern updates ensure that fans new and old will find the remaster appealing.

Unlike the next Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantisit is “simply” a remaster and not an elaborate remake. You should expect that bugs or technical issues that have not been fully resolved will continue to occur.
