Trump Placing D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Under Direct Federal Control and Activating National Guard

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he was taking major measures to combat rampant crime in Washington, DC, “officially invoking article 740 of the Columbia District District Act” and “Place the DC Metropolitan Metropolitan Police Service under the direct control of federal control”, in addition to activating the national guard.
Trump made the major statement at a highly anticipated press conference on DC crime on Monday morning, declaring it “liberation day” in the national capital.
“It’s Liberation Day at DC, and we will resume our capital. We take it back. Under the authorities which were as president of the United States, I officially invoke article 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act.
“Very good people, but they are difficult, and they know what’s going on. They have already done so,” said Trump, also announcing that he is deploying the National Guard to “help restore public security order in Washington, DC”, assuring that they will be allowed to do their job “correctly”.
Trump told journalists packaged in the tight information room of the White House that it was not a partisan problem, noting that they were also victims of the crime.
“I understand that many of you tend to be on the liberal side, but … you don’t want to be attacked and raped and killed and killed,” he said.
“You want to be able to leave your apartment or your house where you live and feel safe and go to a store to buy a newspaper or buy something, and you don’t have that now,” he said, noting that the murder rate in Washington today is “higher than that of Bogotá, Colombia; Mexico; some of the places you hear as the worst places of the Earth”.
“The number of car flights has doubled in the past five years, and the number of carjacking has more than tripled. The murders in 2023 have reached the highest rate ever. They say 25 years, but they do not know what it means, because it goes back to 25 years,” said Trump, offering a certain perspective.
“Our capital was overwhelmed by violent gangs and blood thirsty criminals, itinerant crowds of young savages, drugged maniacs and homeless, and we are no longer going to happen,” said Trump.
“We are not going to take it, just as we did at our southern border,” he added.
