Peloton’s ‘Teams’ Feature Is Surprisingly Good at Motivating Me to Work Out

I teach spin lessons in a gym setting, so I probably look biased when I say that the exercise lessons in person offer indisputable advantages on home training – but I do not think that I overestimate things. Going to a gymnasium involves several cooking factors to keep you responsible, monthly membership fees for the social training of group training. When you train at home, you have more flexibility, but you can flex yourself at all not to exercise.
This does not mean that I am against training at home. I love my peloton bike and ride it every day, and I think that one of the reasons is that the company is an excellent job to find ways to do users to want To stay on the right track, even during solo exercise. Today, I crossed the phase of a 100 -day peloton training sequence, and although the sequences are effective in motivating my lizard brain, Peloton offers much more than that, including a feature called teams that allows you to compete with or against your friends or other peloton users. In recent weeks, I have tested it and I discovered that the teams are really effective in creating this feeling of in-gymne motivation.
How the peloton teams work
Using teams, you can train with friends (or even strangers to see), either work jointly towards a predetermined objective (say, 100 hours of collective bike in a month) or a competing head. Your “team” is a group united by everything you decide – it can be your group of friends, for example, or a group of people who share a common identifier, such as being of a certain geographic area or recovering after childbirth. In short, the functionality creates a feeling of community in a virtual landscape which can sometimes feel insulating, and it is easy to access the peloton application.
How to set up a peloton team
To create a peloton team, start in the peloton application on your phone. Along the lower menu on the home screen, you will see icons to Home And Classesan icon that allows you Follow an activity On the fly, a Community icon, and a Profile icon. Press the Community icon (it looks like three people silhouetted standing together) and the following screen will give you three options: Teams,, FoodAnd Challenges. Below TeamsYou will see all the teams in which you are, the more the option of Create A.
When you make Create a teamYou will be asked to name it, give it a description, select a color to represent the group and choose the activities on which everyone can focus. You can choose from strength, yoga, meditation, cardio and more – or you can choose “everything”. Then indicate where the team is based from a list of large cities, or select “Anywhere”. Finally, decide whether the team is public or private. Public teams have activity data available for everyone, and anyone can join them. Private teams are more, finally private, with progress only visible for members. The team administrators determine who is authorized to join a private team.

Once you have finished the basic configuration, you will be taken on a page that shows you the team details on five tabs: Preview,, Food,, Challenge,, Weekly statisticsAnd Teammates. There are a few ways to add teammates: press the icon at the top with a silhouette and a more sign, or the button that says Invite friends On the preview tabs and teammates. Press one of them brings you to a list of people who follow you on peloton, and you will see a Invite Button next to their name. You can also share the invite link with people with whom you are not connected to the application, so that you can send it an SMS to a friend or publish it in a forum.
Who can be in your peloton team
Anyone with a peloton membership can appear in your peloton team. Memberships vary from $ 12.99 per month (if you simply use the application to do things like yoga and stretching) to $ 44 per month if you have peloton equipment (such as a bicycle, a bicycle +, a tread or a line) and you want to access courses, games and other features. For me, paying these costs each month has a similar motivation effect to pay a subscription to the gymnasium, but until I discovered teams, the very important element of social pressure was still lacking.
I have all access membership, which allows me to do everything, from following with guided walks on my phone to play a rhythm game on my bike called Lanebreak. I recently started testing a bicycle +, and I installed my boyfriend with an All Access subscription to use on my old bike so that we can test features such as taking course together while I was simultaneously taking care of identifying the differences between the bicycle and the bike +. We trained a team on the first day, although we could have done it even without having two platoons, because members only of applications can also participate in forestry walks, stretching and even walks of cycling.
What you do once you have done a team
After inviting your teammates, it’s time to set up challenges and competitions. Your team is a permanent element, but the challenges and competitions are timed. Suppose you have a week-long challenge where everyone is working to finish 25 combined training sessions: after a week, this challenge will disappear, but the team itself will remain. You can make more than one challenge and add new ones each time you expire.

There are two options when creating a team activity:

Challenge Create a “shared target objective” to which everyone works, such as the completion of a number of training sessions, a defined distance traveled or a defined time devoted to the exercise.

Competitions You allow you to define these same training or time objectives, but you are all in competition against each other to see who can do the most in a fixed time.
You can check the progress of your challenges and competitions from the APROVE tab and get a more detailed view by checking the tabs of weekly challenges and statistics. The Feed tab shows you everyone’s training. You can also send virtual High-Fives to your teammates via the application to keep everyone motivated.
What do you think so far?
Peloton recently deployed a new addition to the features within the teams. In July, you can share class recommendations directly to your team. Before the implementation of this upgrade, you could see the progress of teammates in the flow, but you could not job in the flow; All you could do was add a reaction to five years or a comment once someone finished training. Because you can now add messages and comments to support class recommendations in this feed section, the functionality of the teams has become even more social and got closer to the gymne experience.
Find a team to join
If you do not have a group of friends using platoons, you can join teams with foreigners. Of Community application tab, press the Discover button. There, you will find trend teams and include public teams in a wide variety of classifications – Mamas Pelo pregnant, TeameVeSingLeDay, Ménoposse, users of digital peloton applications, etc. – which you can join. There is also a search bar, and you can search for teams to reach by type of activity, location or interest.

You may not know these people, but they can motivate you to exercise in the same way as foreigners at the gymnasium: just by existing in your space, even your virtual.
How the peloton teams make me move
I usually keep my peloton profile set to private. I shared my username on my Instagram stories when I got my bike for the first time and, therefore, I have a lot of foreigners on my list of friends in the application. I don’t think they need to see a flow of the frequency to which I use my machine. For this reason, it seemed a little unusual to share the details of my training schedule with someone, even if my first team was made up of me and my boyfriend. But after a day or two of us, working on a shared goal challenge to finish 10 training sessions, I started to feel motivating itching: if I did not go bike, my beautiful would know – and I would drop our team!
I am also a deeply competitive person, and although we have a shared challenge, not a head-to-face competition, it always gave me a little dopamine to verify my statistics and discover that I actually beaten it by contributing more to our goal during the a week’s challenge.
The bottom line
Everything that motivates a person to train is a good thing in my book, but the peloton teams are particularly useful because it is so easy to set up and so well integrated into the application that you are probably using. You don’t have to coordinate the schedules with anyone, as you do when you take lessons together, because you don’t have to train at the same time. All you have to do is press a few buttons, invite teammates and start.
I was not sure that it would be for me, since I generally motivate myself with regard to my training, but I quickly discovered that he had lit a fire under me like no solo routine schedule could. I have already launched a new challenge for my boyfriend and myself. I expect to win.
