Look on it
We already knew that the next show would debut early next year. Indeed, AKotSKHBO Max’s release window was revealed earlier this week, with the high fantasy series confirmed to premiere in January 2026. Still, it’s good to know exactly when it will make its bow on HBO Max. Hopefully it will launch worldwide on that date, so those of us who don’t live in the US can stream it alongside our American counterparts.
It’s just as satisfying to see actual footage of the Game of Thrones‘final prequel series.
Until now, we’ve only seen the briefest shot of an HBO Max sizzle reel releasing in August 2024. A 10-second clip was also released on Goton social media yesterday (October 8), but, understandably, that didn’t reassure fans – myself included – who wanted an in-depth look at AKotSK. HBO can now consider us completely at peace for the moment.

As for what the trailer shows, it confirms that the first season of the series will adapt “The Hedge Knight”, aka the first installment of George RR Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” book trilogy.
In this novel, which takes place 90 years ago Got, we follow Ser Duncan ‘Dunk’ the Tall, who enters a tournament at Ashford Meadow in order to follow in the footsteps of his late master Ser Arlan. There, he crosses paths with Aegon ‘Egg’ Targaryen, who persuades ‘Dunk’ to let him be his squire. Thus begins a journey that will change the couple forever.
An intimate, character-driven story A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms it looks like it will be funnier and less grandiose than Game of Thrones And Dragon House. That’s not to say it won’t be as dramatic or action-packed as its predecessors and, with two lovable underdogs at the center of its story, I suspect it won’t take long. Game of Thrones diehards and newcomers alike are searching for “Dunk” and “Egg” on one of the world’s best streaming services.
