A wildlife photographer has discovered one of the oldest and largest collections of dinosaur footprints in an Italian national park. Authorities announced Tuesday that the footprints date back about 210 million years, to the Triassic period. The venue is close to the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic venue in Bormio. Experts say the site contains up to 20,000 footprints over five kilometers. The prints were made by long-necked bipedal herbivores, similar to a Plateosaurus. Lombardy’s regional governor, Attilio Fontana, called it a “gift for the Olympics”, although plans for public access have not yet been drawn up.
