Adobe debuts ‘Prompt to Edit’ and music tools as its next big AI features

First, there was generative AI, allowing creators, editors, and memelords to create artificial worlds with just a few words. Adobe now offers the ability to edit these worlds with Prompt to Edit, a new feature in Firefly, as well as audio features. Photoshop also adds generative scaling and a “harmonize” feature.
Adobe announced these new features at its MAX conference, where it typically rolls out new features within its Creative Cloud suite as well as Firefly, its AI image generator, which now includes AI soundtracks and voiceovers.
Obviously, users have the option of using Firefly to create entirely new images or using one of Adobe’s other tools to make changes to the finished product. But Prompt to Edit is probably one of the coolest additions to the company’s toolset. Firefly’s Edit Prompt feature is generally available to customers today, according to the company.
However, it remains to be seen how effective it will be and how much Adobe will “charge” in terms of image credits. Firefly’s new capabilities also include new templates from ElevenLabs and TopazLabs, as well as the ability to create 4-megapixel templates, which means images up to 2,560 × 1,440 pixels.
But until December 1, this question remains debatable. Adobe will allow unlimited AI image generation as well as the Firefly Video model by then, the company said. They’ve also added a Firefly Video Editor in private beta, which includes a timeline editor for trimming and organizing clips, with the ability to add start or end frames. Users will be able to make edits using the video editor or via text transcription.

Firefly users will also be able to add a soundtrack. Adobe is launching the commercially safe Firefly audio template for background music, as well as the Firefly Speech template (plus another from ElevenLabs) for voiceovers. This comes as OpenAI is reportedly considering its own music generator. Suno, a dedicated AI music generator, also released an updated “4.5 All” model to the general public on Tuesday.
Adobe also previewed “Project Moonlight,” an AI assistant that detects a creator’s social networks and makes recommendations based on existing content.
Photoshop, Premiere and Lightroom add AI improvements
Adobe’s additions to Photoshop include generative scaling and a new “harmonize” feature. Generative Upscale is a feature that Topaz Labs has offered for years; Image scaling is also built into Windows, but you’ll need a Copilot+ PC to enable it. Essentially, upscaling takes a low-resolution photo or image and intelligently adds pixels to it, transforming it into a more detailed image. The company claims that you will be able to create images up to 4K using the new feature.
Harmonize uses AI to blend people or objects into new scenes, much like the traditional “Photoshopping” of images embraced by the online community. Harmonize is used to “match light, color, and tone to achieve natural, realistic results, completing the bulk of the composition process,” Adobe explains. Photoshop also adds Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, Black Forest Labs FLUX.1 Kontext, and Firefly Image Models to its generative fill capabilities. All of these are available today.
Adobe doesn’t appear to have added Prompt Edit functionality to Photoshop yet, but the company showed off a “limited private beta” of an AI assistant in Photoshop that appears to offer similar edits. It is an improved version of tools like Copilot Vision on Windows.

Meanwhile, Adobe is adding AI Object Mask to Premiere, a public beta. The technology “automatically identifies and isolates people and objects in video images so that they can be edited and tracked without the need for manual rotoscoping,” the company said. “Object Mask makes the process of color grading, blurring, and adding special effects to a moving background faster and easier. »
Finally, Adobe is testing “assisted selection” in Lightroom, which will evaluate and extract the “best” images from a collection, using focus, angles and sharpness as metrics.
