AEW Continental Classic 2025 Update – Christmas Collision

The championship stage of the 2025 Continental Classic tournament came to an end on the special Christmas Day edition of “AEW Collision” and there was still everything to play for. Three of the four Worlds End semi-final spots were still up for grabs, and with all 12 men competing in their final matches of the championship stage, who collected the vital points that allowed them to join Konosuke Takeshita in the final four this weekend?
Everyone in the Gold League entered “Collision” with six points, meaning all six men had a chance to advance to the semi-finals at World’s End. Kyle Fletcher and “Jungle” Jack Perry were the first two men to attempt to punch their ticket to the big event on December 27 as they faced off in the opening competition of the evening. Perry’s ankle took significant punishment throughout the tournament and that’s exactly what Fletcher targeted throughout the fight, to the point where Perry struggled for the majority of the match with just one boot. Perry held on until the final 60 seconds but was eventually overwhelmed by “The Protostar”, who earned the victory after hitting a Brainbuster. Fletcher finishes the championship with nine points and advances to the semi-finals, but the question of whether he will finish first or second still remains to be resolved.

That answer became a little clearer during Kevin Knight’s match with PAC, with the latter looking for a quick rebound after losing to Jack Perry 24 hours earlier on “AEW Dynamite.” Both men were looking for the three most important points and engaged in a very even back and forth match. In fact, Knight and PAC were so evenly matched that after 20 minutes, nothing could separate them as their fight ended in a draw as time expired, although PAC appeared to have won the match as he locked Knight in the Brutalizer in the final seconds. Due to the draw, both men collected one point each, but canceled each other out in terms of tournament progression as they both finished with seven points.
It all came down to the match between Kazuchika Okada and “Speedball” Mike Bailey, where a victory for either man would see them advance to the end of the world. If Okada won, he would finish in second place due to his head-to-head record against Fletcher as “The Protostar” defeated “The Rainmaker” the day before Thanksgiving, while “Speedball” would finish on top of the Gold League as he holds a victory over Fletcher. In the end, it was Okada who got the better of Bailey after a series of counters that led to Okada sitting in a rolled-up position to secure the last-minute victory. Okada finishes the championship stage with nine points and advances to Worlds End as Gold League runners-up behind Fletcher due to their aforementioned head-to-head record.

Drama in the Blue League
Orange Cassidy and Jon Moxley on the AEW – AEW/Ricky Havlik collision
The first Blue League match of the evening saw Konosuke Takeshita take on Mascara Dorada. Takeshita was looking to become the first man in tournament history to go through the entire championship stage without suffering a single defeat, while Dorada needed a win to have any chance of advancing to the semifinals, and even then he would need other results to go his way. Dorada did his best to stay in the air as Takeshita spent most of the match trying to pin down the luchador, and Dorada had his moments hitting a Hurricanrana from the top rope and a Destroyer as Takeshita went for a Powerbomb. However, Dorada went to the pit one time too many as Takeshita hit an Avalanche Lariat, a Power Drive Knee and finally the Raging Fire for the win. Takeshita becomes the first wrestler in history to finish the Continental Classic league stage undefeated as he finishes with 13 points, while Dorada is officially eliminated with six points.

On the other side of the league, Roderick Strong entered his final match of the tournament without winning a single point, leaving him to play the role of spoiler against whoever he was facing. His final match was against Claudio Castagnoli, who would join Takeshita in the semifinals as Blue League runners-up with a victory. Both men wanted the match to end early as Strong came out of the gates with a barrage of strikes and throws, while Castagnoli attempted to beat Strong down on the outside in order to get the victory on the countout. Ultimately, Strong saw an opening and realized that Castagnoli was rushing everything he did and landed a clean knee to the jaw that stunned Castagnoli and Strong secured his first victory of the tournament. Although Strong may have only finished with three points, he left Castagnoli in danger of elimination as he finished with seven points.
The final Blue League match saw Jon Moxley take on Orange Cassidy, where a victory for either man would see them join Takeshita in the semi-finals as Blue League runners-up. However, if the match ended in a draw, Castagnoli would take second place as he would be tied with Moxley and Cassidy on seven points, but would advance thanks to his head-to-head record against both men. The match did not end in a draw, meaning Castagnoli was eliminated, but there would be a representation of the Death Riders in the semi-finals of the Continental Classic as Moxley defeated Cassidy. “Freshly Squeezed” had the match in the palm of his hand after a series of Orange Punches and a Beach Break, but Moxley scored a quick roll-up in the final moments to secure the victory, putting him at nine points and qualifying for the end of the world.
With both leagues now complete, your Continental Classic 2025 semifinals are Kyle Fletcher vs. Jon Moxley and Kazuchika Okada vs. Konosuke Takeshita.
