Boston Celtics reportedly tabled offer to veteran All-Star
On Thursday, July 17, the Boston Celtics missed Damian Lillard. The veteran goalkeeper signed with the Blazers of Portland Trail. Lillard had been a free agent after the Milwaukee Bucks bought him from his contract earlier this summer. His agreement to return to Portland sees him win 42 million dollars over the next three years, and it is before the salary that he is due by the Bucks.
Given the Lillard’s agreement with the Trail Blazers, it is easy to see why the Celtics had trouble placing a competitive offer. Boston, after all, is currently trying to dodge under the second luxury tax apron. Brad Stevens has already exchanged Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to help the franchise achieve his goal. Nevertheless, it would seem that the Celtics made an offer to Lillard during his limited time as a free agent.
"He was going to spend the year rehabilitating his Achilles tear in the Portland region, anyway," Said Charania d’Espn. "So, returning to the Blazers franchise, even if he asked for a business just two years ago, was something that he cared deeply. And Boston, Minnesota, dozens of other teams have had a minimum and intermediate level in Damian Lillard in recent weeks."
Lillard adjustment to Boston would have been at best questionable. He needs the ball in his hands to be an effective member of the rotation. In addition, we do not know what type of player he will be back with his Achilles injury at almost 36 years old. However, the Celtics probably considered Lillard as a microphone with low cost and a high reward.

Now, with Lillard out of the table, Stevens must continue to explore the means to re -post the Boston list. After all, the objective is to return to the running once Jayson Tatum returns to the rotation of the 2026-27 season, after his injury to the Achilles tendon in the 2025 eliminatory series.
