Akron drivers face I-76, I-77 ramp closures at night starting Monday

Here’s an update on Summit County construction projects from the Ohio Department of Transportation. All scheduled work is weather permitting.

Starting Monday, May 11, and continuing through Thursday, May 14, the following Interstate 76/Interstate 77 ramps will be closed nightly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for drainage repairs:

  • I-77 south at I-76/Kenmore leg. The detour will be I-76/Kenmore leg south to I-277 east to I-77 north to I-76 east.

  • The ramp from I-76/Kenmore leg north to I-76 east. The detour will be I-77 north to state Route 261 to I-77 south to I-76/Kenmore leg south to I-277 east to I-77 north to I-76 east.

  • On Thursday, May 14, at 9 p.m., through Friday, May 15, at 5 a.m., the ramp from I-76 west to I-77 south will be closed. The detour will be I-76 west to I-76/Kenmore leg south to I-277 east to I-77 south.

The following new ramp closures will take place in Fairlawn and Bath Township for I-77 widening:

  • Beginning on May 18, the ramp from Ghent Road to I-77 northbound will be closed through early July for pavement reconstruction. The detour will be Ghent Road to state Route 18 to I-77 north.

  • Beginning on May 18, the ramp from I-77 north to Ghent Road will be closed through mid-July for pavement reconstruction. The detour will be I-77 north to state Route 18 east to Cleveland Massillon to Ghent roads.

  • The ramp from I-77 southbound to Ghent Road will remain closed through mid-May. The ramp from Ghent Road to I-77 southbound will remain closed through July.

  • I-77 between Ghent and Everett roads will continue to have various nightly lane closures between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for pavement repairs. The estimated completion of the project is September 2027.
