Alex Anzalone disappointed with contract talks with Lions

Allen Park, Michigan – The Lions secondary, Alex Anzalone, wants to end his player career in Detroit, but admits to having been “disappointed” in the way in which his contractual negotiations have so far gone this offseason.
Anzalone, which faces an injury to the hamstrings, has not yet practiced but has been spotted at the Meijer Performance Center covering the key line of day 3 of the equipment training camp issued by the team.
“I’m disappointed, I’m just going to say that. I’m disappointed,” Anzalone said about his contract negotiation on Tuesday.
Although the 30 -year -old has expressed his desire to conclude a new contract a long time ago, while he entered the last year of his current contract of $ 18.75 million over three years which was signed in 2023, he does not plan to withdraw regular seasonal matches because of these concerns.
However, he found the situation strange because of his history with the Lions in the last four seasons, during which he was a key element in the reconstruction of the team to relevance.
“Of course. This is a strange situation and was not my end or the end of my agent,” said Anzalone, speaking to journalists for the first time.
The Anzalone would not fall into the details of any discussion in progress, but believes that it is underpaid compared to the other seconds of the NFL. In 2024, he started in the 10 appearances, while recording the fourth plated of the team (63) – seven for loss.
“I want to withdraw a lion. I want this opportunity,” said Anzalone “that’s what I feel.”
On Sunday, the Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that he had refused to believe that Anzalone was not practicing a “conservation” situation due to contractual problems. And there is a chance that Anzalone can potentially return to the practice field without a new agreement, but his intentions are clear while he is trying to help Detroit win a super bowl.
“I put so much time in my time here and being a quadruple captain and my teammates and the city and I live here,” said Anzalone. “You can list all the reasons, but it’s just important to me. I feel like I like this place, and I want this opportunity.”
The security of the Lions All-Pro Kerby Joseph is a big fan of the Anzalone, and his role on defense, and says that he supports “everything he thinks he has to do is best and it’s just him”.
