Amazon brings dark mode to Kindle Colorsoft and Scribe Colorsoft

Amazon today announced a software update for both the Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft e-readers, which will bring dark mode to both e-readers. Better yet, users will be able to change specific menu settings on both devices. So if they want their bookshelf to be dark and their laptop to be lit, they can. Given that the option is available on many other Kindle devices, its omission here always felt like Amazon was under attack.
Additionally, the update brings Smart Shapes to notebooks, allowing users to add pre-drawn lines, arrows, circles, triangles, and rectangles from the toolbar. Additionally, a hold-to-hang tool allows you to draw a shape freehand, after which it will transform into a nice, tidy design. Both should help people who want to add a graphic touch to their note-taking and can’t create all those fancy journal designs themselves.
The update will be rolled out across the ecosystem over the coming days, enabling future newspaper editors to use these tablets. For tablets like the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, it’s clear that Amazon needs to build the Scribe half of the equation, which looks like a poor relation compared to its competitors. As Cherlynn Low wrote in her review, it’s a good e-reader, but severely lacking in many areas.
