An Upcoming Documentary Aims to Give Doug Jones Some Well-Deserved Flowers

There are two types of people in the world: those who love Doug Jones in every movie or TV series he appears in, and those who love the performance and have no idea it was Doug Jones. With one of the richest resumes of our time, including roles in Hocus Pocus, The Shape of Water, Star Trek: Discovery, Hellboy, Falling Skies and hundreds more, it’s amazing how many people wouldn’t recognize this incredible actor in person.
An upcoming documentary, largely fueled by Doug Jones fans, highlights the talent of this actor.
Director Eric Conlin and executive producer Derek Maki have just announced a self-proclaimed love letter in the form of a Kickstarter-funded documentary called Get Me Doug Jones. The campaign, launched Monday, says the filmmakers already have a large collection of interviews with Hollywood legends like Bette Midler, Noah Wylie, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ron Perlman, Harvey Guillén and more than 20 others who worked with Jones throughout his career.
The goal is clear: to introduce as many people as possible to the actor behind dozens of beloved characters who, in many cases, simultaneously seem more and less human the longer you stare at them.
A Kickstarter campaign aims to raise funds for the final stages of this Doug Jones project.
Although the documentary doesn’t have a release date and Kickstarter doesn’t go into detail about potential interviews that could be added before its release, the promotion from the start is intense. The campaign promises a lot, including merchandise signed by Jones himself, interviews with some of his co-stars, and live Q&A sessions at locations like Hollywood’s infamous sci-fi bar, Scum and Villainy Cantina.
Overall, this looks like a lot of fun made by people who really appreciate the work of this great actor and want more people to see the very great man behind the mask. Or prosthetics. Or makeup. Or a never-before-seen combination to create a face we’ve never seen on screen before. Personally, I’m excited to see this come to fruition and watch, because a lot of my friends will finally believe me when I say Doug Jones is here. All.
