Another Democrat Comes Clean on Schumer’s Shutdown and His Party’s Political Games – RedState

Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) just became the second Democrat to say the silent part out loud by admitting that Schumer’s shutdown is “very unpleasant” but constitutes the “only moment of influence” his party has.
Speaking to CSPAN, Coons was asked about the ongoing government shutdown by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the Democratic Party, which is now in its 28th day.
Chris Coons on the closure:
“Frankly, it’s our only leverage.”
🤯
42 million Americans will go hungry and lose SNAP benefits THIS WEEKEND…so Democrats can have “leverage.”
DISGUSTING.

“Frankly, this is our only moment of influence, and while it is a very unpleasant tool to use, it has allowed us to focus on what we need to do to change the direction on health care,” Coons said, referring to Democrats’ lie about how millions of Americans would be shut out of health care in the coming years.
But here’s what Coons doesn’t say. The Democrat forgot to explain that the shutdown is because Republicans won’t give billions to fund health care for illegal aliens.
In an article for our sister site Townhall.com, he noted that Coons’ comment about leverage is truly disgusting given that “42 million Americans are going to go hungry and lose SNAP benefits this weekend…so Democrats can have ‘leverage.’
Democratic House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (MA-05) was the first in her party to admit that Americans’ suffering gave Democrats “leverage,” RedState reported.
My colleague Rusty Weiss wrote:
Clark said the party’s highest priority right now is securing health care, what the No. 2 House Democrat calls “our defining issue.”
But listen to what the real defining issue is. A leverage effect, to the detriment of suffering families.
🚨 @WhipKClarkthe number two Democrat in the House, on the Democrats’ shutdown: “Of course, there will be families who will suffer… but this is one of the rare moments of leverage we have.”

“The closures are terrible and, of course, there are going to be, you know, families who are going to suffer. We take that responsibility very seriously,” Clark said. “But it’s one of the few pieces of leverage we have.”

While appearing on Fox News Tuesday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) reacted to Coons’ comment and said Democrats think they’re playing a “political game,” but that’s not the case.
“They see this as if it’s some kind of political game,” Thune said. “There are winners and losers in the political game. So we see this as a real impact on the real families and people of this country.”
“It becomes more real and the consequences become more real over time,” he added. “I mean, what they just said, they said it out loud. These people consider it a political game, Martha. [McCallum]and that’s not the case.”
When someone admits the truth, Americans would do well to listen. They’re playing a game with you: you’re replaceable as long as they get what they want.
Editor’s note: Schumer’s closure is here. Rather than putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and radical Democrats forced a government shutdown on health care for illegal immigrants. They own that.
